My SIL is 36 and BIL 39. They have waited quite some time to TTC. They are both awesome people and will make amazing parents. They started TTC over a year and a half ago. SIL's sister has PCOS and had some difficulty. SIL has no signs of PCOS but mentioned it to her OB-GYN and they tested her for it. At that time SIL told me that she was told she also had PCOS. She ended up having four very large cysts that did not go away after many months of birth control?!? Like 5. I thought had was odd, and during that time they never checked any blood work. Ultimately she had them surgically removed where they also found a good amount of endo around her bladder and bowel. OB told her that it is not effecting her fertility because it is not near her reproductive organs. She now tells me that her OB said that does not have PCOS? At this time she is on her second round of clomid. They monitor her with one ultrasound in the beginning and then one blood draw after she takes the clomid. No trigger shot. Then TI.
I have strongly recommended to her to go to a RE, to at the very least get a second opinion. She has had an HSG. But thats it. She doesn't know anything about day three blood work. I just hate to she her wasting time. She did make an appointment with a RE but told me when the date got close she canceled it. SHe says she likes her OB and they will do IUIs. Sperm count is not their issue. After our last conversation she plans to eat more protein, pinapple around implantation, pray, and continue with the OB. I don't know if she'll even ever go to a RE.
I pray this works for her. But I guess at the same time I dont understand why she is so hesitant. I never even went to my OB. Straight to a RE. Being a nurse I wanted to go right to the specialist, and am so grateful that I did. SIL would love a baby more than anything. I guess everyone does things at thier own pace. I plan to stop asking her about it from now on unless she mentions it. SHe is well aware of our struggles.
I guess I am looking to see if anyone else was hesitant to go to a RE or if anyone here had success with just an OB? Thanks.
Re: SIL dealing with IF
Caroline was concieved with my OB. He does a lot of fertility treatments though...I actually have several IRL friends who have concieved with his help.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.
