Bed rest

I don't know what other clinics do in terms of bed rest, but @ C.CRM it is day of and after transfer...whether it is a 3 or 5dt. I guess I'm wondering what is the point of bed rest? I figured for me at this point the embryo(s) would hopefully implant (if they're going to) by the end of the roughly 48 hours. But if I had done a 3dt, 48 hours of bed rest wouldn't have had the embryos at implantation stage anyway. I know that once they're placed in your uterus they can't come out or anything so...I'm just curious. Hopefully my question makes sense, lol.

Re: Bed rest

  • My RE doesn't require bedrest at all.  They say to take it easy the day of, but that's it.  With my first IVF I put myself on bedrest the day of.  Then I went to work the next day.  I got a BFN and felt like I wish I would have stayed home from work.  With my 2nd IVF I did bed rest the day of and the next day I was mostly on the couch.  I got a BFP, but had a c/p.

Honestly, I don't know if it makes any difference or not.  I've seen ladies get BFP's and BFN's with and without bedrest.  I think if it's going to work out, it's going to work out - barring some extreme behavior.  I just think that whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is what is best to do.  With my 1st IVF I had a stressful day at work the next day and so I really regretted going in.  I think you have to do what will make you have no regrets.

    Best of luck hun!!!

  • I did quite a bit of googling about this topic and came to the conclusion that it's 100% a mental thing so that, if it doesn't work, you don't torture yourself by saying "If I'd only..."  I did bed rest the day of (I was tired and slept mostly) and then worked from home the day after kind of lounging around.  Mostly, I was excited about taking a couple days away from work!

  • I had to do 24 hours of bed rest, but I'm not exactly sure the reasoning.  My nurse also told me to not do anything that I would be regretting later.  Basically like PP said, it's a mental thing.  Don't do anything that you are going to beat yourself up about later if it doesn't work.

That being said, when we went to our WTF after our BFN, the RE said that there was nothing that we did or didn't do that would have caused this to happen.  He said if the embryos were able to create a baby then they would have stuck.

    Good luck!

  • My RE asks for 24 hours bed rest, and another 24 hours of "taking it very easy." My nurse said that it's purely for psychological reasons - same for their instructions regarding no sex from positive beta to first u/s. They don't want people to beat themselves up thinking that they caused something to go wrong or not work.

  • My RE required bedrest the day of, but tha'ts it.  I was back to work the next day both times.  I think it's more of a "anything could help" kind of thing!  Good luck!!!
  • My RE doesn't require bedrest.  With my last IVF I stayed in bed the day of transfer and the day after.  I still got a BFN.  I think it doesn't have anything to do with implantation.
  • my RE says to take it easy.

i've had 2 diff acus and they have diff takes on it.  one says take it easy, the other says day off.  mrsamr's acu says 3dt = 3 days BR 5dt = 1 day BR.
