Baby Showers

need ideas for punch....

My BF's mom is throwing me a shower this saturday for their side of the family. Well, she texted me tonight and said her and her daughter would like to have punch made for the shower, but they don't have a punch bowl. I asked my mom and she doesn't have one and I don't think any of my family do either. I was just wondering if any of you had a creative idea or suggestion for what to do. Is there anything that we can put it in that will still look nice and not tacky, or should we have something else out to drink? TIA.

  • What about a hollowed out watermelon?  Or they could use pitchers.

  • You could use a new baby bathtub.  You could even float some rubber duckies in it.  Or, if anyone has a cake plate, you can use that with a large glass bowl (maybe a salad bowl) on top as the punch bowl.  Punch bowls can be found for a very reasonable price if anyone wants to purchase one for the ocassion.  You could probably find one for under $15.
  • Why don't you just buy an inexpensive, cute punch bowl?

  • I bought one for my wedding (self catered). It was pretty inexpensive (maybe $15). It seems like a waste to buy one...but it's been amazing to have on hand. I just made puppy chow in it last week!

Party stores also usually carry some cheap plastic kind. They aren't as pretty but they get the job done.

There's nothing wrong with pitchers either! Heck, they might make life easier! ...I'm just not sure how you'd mix everything?

Are they throwing it at a special location? Most churchs, banquet halls, etc have their own little stock of party supplies. You could call and see if there's already one there.

I have a big tin bucket. It's made to put ice in and hold canned/bottled drinks. Something like that might work.

  • The watermelon or other melon idea is a good one. But no one has a mixing bowl? Sure it might not be the nicest looking thing, but it will get the job done. Other wise I agree with the other PP's. Go out and get a cheap plastic set.
