WTF is wrong with people??

I don't know why I let people bother me so much.  Over the weekend we took the boys to Brown's Berry Patch.  There's a small barn where the kids can feed some of the animals.  They have a big sink to wash your hands, as well as a little sink for the kids.  Anyways, I was helping my 21 month old and 3 yo wash their hands when all of a sudden I hear a woman next to me very rudely say to her daughter "I guess we'll have to use the big sink because obviously they don't know how to share!"  I looked over at her in complete shock that she said that and said back "I'm trying lady."  That's all I could come up with at the time.  I really wish I had more time to think of what I wanted to say but I'm not that quick on my feet....lol.  Plus, I would never have said anything in front of my kids other than what I said.  However, I would have liked to ask her if her daughter skipped over ages 1 through 6, because had she not, then she would have realized that it takes kids forever to do anything!!  And I should have said "way to set an example in front of your child."  I swear there's a least one in every crowd.  Ok, thanks for letting me rant.  I'm still mad about it.

  • why do these moments NEVER happen to me?

You did the right thing- I would have bit her fricken head off...

I just think people are more rude in general and I'm sorry she opened her big fat mouth...

  • I would be mad too.  I think your response was fine (although I always think of witty, more pointed things to say after the incident is over - err!) since it told her that she was out of line.  I mean, if kids are playing in the water for 15 minutes then I would probably be annoyed but if someone was helping children wash their hands then she needed to be patient.  And teach her child to be as well.

  • Ew! I hate ppl like that! Once I was at Wegs and I was looking thru RedBox (my first time doing it) and I had my DD (1 at the time), and there were 2 of the RedBox machines. So there was this lady, she had 2 kids, older, and they were looking at the other machine...and she was VERY loud. They did not have the movie she was searching for, so she stood behind me to wait. It was no more than 1 minute, and she was rocking back and for from foot to foot, then she said to her kids, extremely loud and rude, "I guess you guys don't get to get a movie today, since we have to WAIT so long..." UUHHHGGG!!! She continued to stand there huffing, I was still looking and I could feel her eyes burning into the back of my head, so I said "Are you kidding me?!?!" and walked away. She had no response. I am not quick with good response either...but I made sure I was sarcastic and rude right back, and glared as I dragged my 1yo with me. PPL are so RUDE!

  • That is really annoying!  I let people bother me too, although, I may have been the more annoying parent in the last situation.  I took the kids to a playground we never go to and they were doing great on the slides, but all of these bratty kids kept running up the slides.  I asked them 5 times to stop because I am that parent and I don't care.  I mean, my kids were trying to go down them.  Their parents were standing right nearby and said something (one just gave me a dirty look), but didn't make the kids change what they were doing.  After a kid came down the slide before Mia was all the way down, I yelled at him, acted like a huge spaz, announced we were leaving  and dragging my crying kids to the car.  LOL.  I was a little over the top, but it was the only part that my kids could do safely, so whatever!

  • I'd be mad, too. Not like you were letting them play in the water. You have 2 toddlers - what did she expect? Nice how she was teaching her daughter about patience.
  • When DS was like 2 weeks old and I took him grocery shopping I (admittedly) parked the cart in the open yellow line area next to my parking spot because I was a nervous new mom and he was in the car and it was hot and the shopping cart return area was pretty far away.  I didn't know if I would get in trouble for leaving a baby in a car even for that short time to return the cart and he was sleeping in his carseat and I was paranoid so whatever.

Anyways,  some lady glared at me and went up to the cart and then motioned at me to put my window down.  She yelled " put your damn cart away".  She said it so rudely that I just responded " I have a baby in the car!" and she was like " oh you ***" and I yelled "you're a b*" hahah  I still get fired up thinking about it.  I would never call someone out like that.  I am way more conscious about always returning my cart though.  I always unload the groceries first and then take the kids with me to the cart return and then lug them back to the car.  It was seriously like the first time that I ever didn't return my cart too and I swear I think about it every time I go shopping!

  • Oh she sounds like a prize.  She obviously knew that handwashing was necessary right then and you weren't letting your kids just play in the water.  I never come up with anything good at the moment either though.

  • Ugh....I'm not sure why people need to be like that.  I am very non-confrontational and try not to let strangers get me fired up....unless it was something directed towards one of my kids directly, then I might say something.
