Yup. You read that right.
He's been having this feeling for about a week now (well, that is how long he has been expressing it to me anyway). But he feels like he needs to lose weight, AND FAST, and he thinks he is going to die.
I mean, this might be a good thing (the awareness, certainly not the death). If he were to get on board with dieting/exercising, I would be more inclined to as well. So in that respect, YAY!
But I'm a firm believer in our inate ability to know our future. To predict things (when I got run over by the snowmobile, I knew it was going to happen about 2 minutes before it happened and I just dismissed the uneasy feeling!). That whole sixth sense thing. Anyway, I am nervous that he might "know" something and he is expressing it. I will die if he dies. Seriously.
Please tell me that we are being foolish and that he is going to be fine (with some lifestyle changes, of course. And save that lecture, please!) Yea, so basically, lie to me and tell me that his 6th sense is off kilter!
Re: So Joe thinks he is going to die!
Maybe that gut feeling is natures way of giving us a wake up call? Don't fret...the important thing is that he is intending to get healthy. Has he had a physical lately? Maybe if he calls the doc and does that it will put you both at ease.
(((hugs)))
I know the feeling...mh had his insurance screening last year and came back with really high cholesterol. He's been making real strides to change that but it still freaks me the out.
He has been going to the damn doctor so much in the past year. And he has some freaking nuclear (that's the wrong word but it's something like that) physical coming up next month. The doctor said he is 95% sure he is fine but wants to take the extra precaution (it's basically checking to see if he is going to have a heart attack!!)! He does have high blood pressure (which is now regulated with meds) and high cholesterol (which he has recently started taking red rice yeast for as he doesn't like the way the meds make him feel and now he is having muscle aches b/c of the red rice yeast). Argh!
So yea, this has all been weighing on his mind. A lot lately. So I'm sure that is the reason for the "intuition" but it's still freaking scary.
(FWIW, both of his parents have high blood pressure and high cholesterol and are both super fit people (his dad has acquired a bit of a belly over the last 10 years). So I think it is hereditary for him. Although his weight, I'm sure, doesn't help. He carries all his weight in his belly (worst possible scenario for heart attack)!!
The fact that both his parents are still going is a good sign.
And, if this notion is the kick start to a healthier lifestyle for him, great!
But still, I can see how scary it would be if your husband is vocalizing a feeling of death around you.
I agree with both of these. The impending physical he has is probably stressing him out. And there is so much in the media about being fit/healthy, I am sure that those messages could be nagging him. All in all, I think it's good that he is under a doctor's care. I think he should talk to the doc about how his meds are making him feel to see about alternatives.
Interesting about the walnuts! We've been eating salmon weekly now (it brings UP the good cholesterol). I'll have to get some walnuts for him. Thanks Z!
He gave up beer as of today. (He drank his last two last night). He said he is not going to have any until after his physical (which is mid November). He'll likely drop about 30lbs in that time....his weight is d/t his beer habit! LOL
I can relate to this. If I stop drinking beer/wine, it's a given that I will lose weight even with eating the same. It's how I drop weight when I am pg. Baffles the doctor until I tell them why.
Oh yes! I left the hospital weighing LESS than my pre-pregnancy weight with both kids. And I attribute that loss d/t lack of alcohol for 9 months! Sad...but true!
Gawd. I do NOT want to give up wine.
Ditto this.
My assumption was definitely off!
I agree 100%.
