Don't even want Pepsi anymore...

I was a heavy Pepsi drinker before I got pregnant, usually 2 cans a day (and usually a little more on the weekend) I always had to have it within 2 hours of waking up in order to avoid a headache. In fact, I loved Pepsi so much that I wasn't going to give it up during pregnancy, just drink one can a day since it only has 38mg of caffiene in it and my dr. said it was totally fine.

Now, I have to force myself to drink a few sips while I eat dinner (which is kind of like breakfast for me since I work nights... I eat dinner with DH around 7pm). I don't even enjoy it. Some nights, I can't even get myself to drink enough to avoid the headache.

Did anyone quit caffiene cold turkey? I'm thinking of doing it, but I'm dreading the headaches that while plague me for a few days. Does anyone have any advice?

  • I didn't quit caffiene cold turkey, but I have cut way back.  I still have a cup of coffee in the morning when I get to work.  With my first, I was really turned off by coffee and pop.  I thought coffee tasted like cigarrettes.  I don't remember getting headaches from quitting.

  • I quit caffeine cold turkey a long time ago. Sure, occassionally I would binge and have some soda, but I rarely crave it anymore. Now that I am pregnant, I don't even want it at all. I take a couple of sips if anything. I haven't wanted any sweet things like soda, cake, cookies, candy at all.

  • I was like you with the pepsi, i couldn't imagine life without pepsi. but as soon as i got pregnant just the thought of drinking pepsi made my stomach turn. i haven't had a pepsi in about 2 months. and i was really worried about the headaches ( i suffer from migraines usually so i was expecting headaches) and i had maybe 1 headache so i don't even know if it was related. but when i do get a headache now i make myself a cup of hot tea that has some caffiene in it and that usually helps. good luck!

  • I was a diet coke addict before I got pg with DS and then I couldn't stand the stuff.  I'm pretty sure I was feeling so miserable that I didn't even notice the headache from quitting cold turkey.  If it's a problem, can you find something with caffeine that you can stomach?  Maybe Mt. Dew, Coke, or even tea.

  • If I want soda, it's root beer. Sprite grosses me out almost as much as Pepsi, and I can't think of any other caffienated drink I'd enjoy. Maybe Ruby Red Squirt? That has caffiene, doesn't it? I think it would probably just be best to just quit it.

Funny story - I had a Coke with a fast food meal the other day and I drank the whole 20 oz (and I actually enjoyed it) and that caffiene made me totally crazy, like I was in a great mood! LOL That's how much I haven't been drinking my Pepsi lately. Caffiene actually affected me for the first time in years. Haha

  • i can't quit my Cokes...Im a coca cola fan....but I dont drink it every day.

A few years ago I quit all things caffeine cold turkey, (i was a chocoholic back then too, as well as at least 1 cup of coffee a day and either Tea or coke during the day) and I was plagued by about 3 weeks worth of migraines, i suffer from occasional migraines anyway. I got past it and stayed off caffeine for about 4 months, then gave in one day when I ate pizza, (i have to have a coke with pizza) and I have been on it ever since....it affects everyone so differently. And being pregnant may be different...I quit smoking cold turkey a few months back literally put them down and I've not had one or wanted one since...so who knows

  • I used to really enjoy my one cup of coffee every morning.  One day I woke up and the smell of it brewing made me want to gag.  It tasted nasty.  Now I'm back to liking it but I do half-caff.  When I was pregnant with my first child (14 yrs. ago) I enjoyed a Coke with certain meals (I'm a water drinker).  I bought caffeine free and it tastes no different to me.  I've been buying it ever since.  So.....if you do start liking the taste again, try decaf.  No need to start back a bad habit if you've kicked it....in my opinion.

  • I quit coffee cold turkey (maybe coffee quit me?)

Since BFP, I've had one cup (that was with dessert the other night). I just don't have a taste for it right now.

Diet Coke? That's another story. Love love love.

  • I quit cold turkey.  I didn't drink but a cup of coffee a day anyways, and I am not a soda drinker to begin with.  So I just cut out my cup of coffee....just because I would rather not mess with it.  However, I have been craving a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks since they came out. So might indulge in a decaf when I am near one...other than that, besides a bit of chocolate here and there...none for me!
  • I used to have a cup of coffee every night but have not went cold turkey YET. You will get some headaches for a couple days but it is so worth it. Good luck!
  • Drink lots of water if you get a headache.  I've also read that if you are dragging, eating an apple can help as much as drinking a cup of coffee or a can of soda.

  • Diet Coke is my nemesis but I cannot stomach it at all this PG. I just got to the point that I can have a bit of coffee in the AM to ease the morning headache, but those are few and far between.

  • I loved my coffee, diet coke, and diet dr. pepper before! Well, during too until a certain point when I just lost all taste for any sodas or coffee. I had cut down on my caffeine intake but it was really one day I just decided I didn't like any of it anymore. Now it's all water, juice, and kool-aid (made with splenda). Every now and then I have a glass of unsweet tea, but not very often. And it sucks because I have to get up at 4:30am for work most days.
