38wk appoint not much progress :-(

I would love some progress dust!  I am very ready to have an outside baby. I have been very uncomfortable lately, just constant lightening crotch.  I almost broke down at the ob's office today because of all the pain I am having.  They said that they will definitely try to not let me go past my due date.

I am still 1cm dilated, but at least completely thinned out so (100% effaced).  LO has dropped, hence the increase in lightening pain.

If any of you are familiar with stripping of membrane procedure, could you please give me some info. on this?  What does it involve?  How long does it take?

Seems pretty good for 38 weeks! I'm sorry you're uncomfortable.

I'm sorry you are uncomfortable.  You are having some progress, so that is good.  Remember that sometimes people have no progress one day and a lot the next.  I think you are doing just fine.  GL with more progress this week!

I had my membranes stripped with DD.  Basically it wasn't painful, just pressure.  The doctor sticks her fingers in and "sweeps" around to do.... something, lol.  I Can't remember what, exaclty.  She did it when I hit 3cm dialated and was 38 weeks and some change, but nothing happened.  She did it again when I was 39 weeks, 3 days and 4cm and I was admitted to the hospital at 4am the next morning.  DD was born that evening at 6pm.

EDIT:  I meant to add that I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable!  I remember just being DONE at that point.  Good luck and lots of progress dust your way!

hey there, i just had my membranes stripped today.  I was 4cm today at my appt. but she never mentioned effacement or station, although last week i was 90% effaced and at 0 station.

Anyway the membrane strip is basically just like an internal except the ob sweeps along your cervix so it's alittle more uncomfy.  Today even my internal hurt which is not normal for me.  Afterwards i had some crampiness and my belly just felt tight all afternoon.  Now i feel alittle better and have had some BH's contrax but nothing too much now.

Sorry you didn't have as much progress as you hoped!! Little man will be here before you know it!

<Hugs>  I'm sorry you are so uncomfortable.  When I was pg with DS I never had my membranes stripped.  However I do have words of encouragement based on his birth; when I went to the hospital with contractions 5 mins apart I was still only 1 cm dilated.  I gave birth 3.5 hours later.  With some people once labor starts you have really fast progress - hopefully you are one of them.

I feel your pain girl! I'm having my membranes stripped tomorrow and I will post the low-down when I'm home from appointment unless I miraculously go into labor tonight! I cannot believe I am almost 41 weeks! I truly never thought I would still be pregnant but apparently I have made a comfy home for this little guy!

Sorry about the lack of progress. I thought things were moving well but since I've been off work, things have slowed down.

Membrane stripping is just the MW/OB's fingers sweeping across the cervix breaking up some membranes to maybe help your body get the hint and progress.  It literally takes seconds.  It was pretty uncomfortable for me, but def worth the try.  It caused spotting, but did nothing at all for me.  I had it done at weeks 38 and 39 and had no progress.  I saw if you're super uncomofrtable though, it's worth a try if your OB/MW is good with it.

That is so frustrating....but at least you are making progress. I'm right there with you, but I'm not dialated or progressing at all & LO is big.  I had to take a NST test today (to make sure LO was okay) & if nothing happens by next weeks appt they will start talking about my options.

As far as the membrane stripping SIL had it & went into labor the next day.  Her pregnancy was textbook, though.

((((hugs)))) I definitely know what it's like to get to that point - I was only 1cm for weeks and up until my induction. My OB did strip my membranes at 39 weeks, when she could finally get in there to do it, but unfortunately it didn't work for me (she said if it was gonna do anything, that we'd know within 48 hours). It wasn't all that bad, just very uncomfortable. I hope that you makes some progress soon!
