a babywise ?

Babywise moms, what age did you go to a 4 hour schedule? I gave my book back to my SIL so I can't remember what it says to do. I think it said when the babies are sleeping 9-10 hours at night? My girls are sleeping about 8 hours at night and it seems like they just aren't hungry for a bottle when I wake them up after their nap (when its been 3 hours from the start of the last feeding). Should I think about moving to a 4 hr schedule or just stick to the 3 hr and let them eat less?

Re: a babywise ?

  • I'm quoting from the book:

"If you have to consistently wake your baby from his or her daytime feedings, this is a strong indication that the baby can go longer between feedings. Generally your baby will be capable of moving to a flexible 3-4 hr routine between three and four months of age, but there is no rush"

That being said, I'm wondering about doing this too, one of my girls is less interested in eating every 3 hrs and seems like she can go longer, but since they are such crappy nappers, im not quite sure how to make that change yet!

  • I think it says when they drop the dreamfeed.  I didn't follow it exactly though.  We moved to a 4 hour schedule at 5 months, and it was probably a month overdue at that point.  For me it was more important to keep the dreamfeed and move to the 4h schedule.

This is what Babywise Mom has to say about it:

  • Oh boy, maybe this is a a no-brainer, but what the heck is the dreamfeed? I don't remember reading anything about it. I'm assuming its a night feeding where they are still asleep? We feed the last bottle around 9:30 and then they wake up at 6ish the next morning...
  • Babywise is mentioned a good bit on here and I really need to get a copy because I am terrified of getting TWO babies on a schedule! My singletons ate every 2-3 hours the first couple of weeks, then every 4 hours or so after that until they were sleeping through the night at around 12 weeks. Once they started cereal and purees, they ate every 4 or 5 hours during the day. I bottlefed them and never really tried to put them on a schedule, I just fed them on demand. I am hoping to nurse these babies so I know it will be a totally different ballgame.

  • Never for my boys - all 3 of them did not sleep well at night on any days that we went 4 hours between feedings- so we always kept with 3 hours between bottles- until they were 12mo and getting lots of table food.
