Babies: 6 - 9 Months

DId your LO do this before crawling?

C has woken up every night SCREAMING, on her belly, pushed up on her arms. This is new....she's been a decent sleeper. She's also not napping at all (3 naps, 15-45 minutes each - she was doing 1.5-2 hours).

What say you? About to crawl? Teeth? Something else? How long does this last!?

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

Re: DId your LO do this before crawling?

  • Beckett's never woken up like that, but when he first started pushing up, it would take him FOREVER  to fall asleep. It's like he would push himself up, and then get scared because he couldn't figure out how to get back down. He would be up on his hands and knees though. Is she just starting to do this? Hopefully she'll get used to it and this won't last long.

Bug cut two teeth, learned to get up on all fours and rock, learned to sit unassisted, and started crawling all in the same month. IT.WAS.HELL. My previous STTN baby was waking allllll the freaking time. I was posting on here for sleep advice, completely miserable, exhausted, and thought my kid needed a sleep exorcism.

Once the teeth were completely through his gums, sitting was boring, and he figured out how to move forward with crawling his sleep returned to normal and he's back to the usual 1 feeding a night/STTN. He is napping longer now than before all the chaos too.

No idea how long it will last. For us it was about 3 weeks of hell, and then a week of transitioning back to a normal sleeping baby. I wish you the best of luck will all of it... it sucks!

I do have a suggestion though. If it is teething, stock up on infant ibuprofen and tylenol. We would give Bug a dose of ibuprofen about 30 minutes before bed and it would help him settle down for the night. If he woke up again in pain, we would give the tylenol. Oragel makes a "naturals" product that is benzocaine free product.

I also figured out that adding a couple small toys to the crib gave him something to do when he did wake up. He would wake up, rock/fuss/play for 30 minutes or so, then go back to sleep. I had things like chewy/squeeky blocks, teether toys, and a baby einstein bendy ball in the crib.

    Long reply..hope it helps!

We are going through teething, crawling, sitting, and a cold right now, and we are all miserable and tired... I just wanted to thank you for this reply! Now I have new ideas, and hope that this too, shall pass.
