no cupcakes!?!

so i went looking for the spice cake mix at heb yesterday to make the cupcakes.  in my head i was looking for spice cupcake mix.

since i've never baked anything in my life, i have no idea what the box should look like, but i'm pretty sure there should be a picture of a cupcakes on the front of the box.  i panicked when i realized our heb did not carry cupcake mix!!! well, you know how this ends....another shopper helped me figure out that cake mix and cupcake mix were the same thing. i was relieved and embarrassed. (why the heck didn't my mom bake anything?!)

the cupcakes turned out awesome!! thanks to all that responded to my first post. i want to try the pumpkin puree with some other kind of cake next time. suggestions?

I use canned pumpkin almost anytime I make cupcakes in the fall. It's great w/ anything. Spice, vanilla, chocolate (you can barely taste the pumpkin in that, though).

don't feel bad, i laughed on my drive home!!   i'm sure the lady i asked had a good chuckle with her family, too.  especially when she said "well you bake them just like you would a cake..."   and i said "i've never baked a cake either"

she was really sweet.  she saved me!

Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers at HEB.  It's the only way that DH ever comes back with "good" strawberries or "the right cheese" for pasta, etc. 

 I'm so glad that they turned out great!

Question - for that recipe - did you use PURE pumpkin, or did you use pumpkin pie filling?  They are always right next to each other at HEB and I always have to double check to be sure I'm getting the right one when I make my pumpkin bread.

I just saw plain pumpkin in the recipes that popped up for me.

I think the pie mix might make it too sweet. If I recalled correctly sugar syrup is like the 3rd ingredient in that.

That's pretty funny!  I love the cupcakes made from spice cake mix and pumpkin.  That sounds so yummy right now!
