Hi all,
I'm new to this board...my husband and I have just started TTC (within the last two weeks). I know i'm sort of jumping the gun here, but I've always been fascinated with baby names. Even though there's no pregnancy yet, I'm dying to discuss some of my ideas with someone...so here we go...
I've always loved the name Casey for a girl (not so much for a boy). I shared the idea with my husband, and it became his favorite girl name too. Right now, it's at the top of our list.
My only concern is, has Casey become too trendy? I know similar-sounding names are all the rage right now: Kylie, Kaylie, Chloe, etc. But I actually don't know any female Caseys IRL, and I have yet to come across a newborn baby with this name. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything...
So, what do you guys think? Too trendy/popular? How many Caseys do you know?
Re: Is this name too popular?
No, I don't think Casey is trendy or popular right now at all. In fact, I think it sounds a little dated. I imagine the numbers will go down even lower now with Casey Anthony being the most hated woman in America.
I think the "ley" sound is trendy right now. Casey doesn't make the cut.
I would actually say that Casey is the opposite of trendy. I haven't heard many people use that name lately.
Here's how I feel:
1. Casey Anthony
2. Kind of early 90's/outdated to me
3. I just don't like it.
I have a male cousin named Casey...so it makes me think of him. Also, Casey is the name of a puppet from the Canadian's children show Mr. Dressup that I watched in the 80's...so I think of that too.
I currently have a female student named Casey.
Totally forgot about Casey Anthony until I saw it mentioned here. :S
Also, a colleague and his wife named their daughter Kacee last winter...but it's supposed to be pronounced Casey. I don't like it at all. It looks like it should be pronounced Cassie to me.

it makes me think of Casey and the Sunshine Band and i also had a yellow lab named Casey.
i don't think it is popular at all.

One of my best friends is named Casey. It's unisex, but I always think of it as a girl name first.
I only know people my age (born in the 70s) with this name, so it isn't popular now. You'll have to decide if it is too similar in sound to other trendy names. I wouldn't have thought to lump it in with them, but I can see your point.
I love the name Casey. It's my sisters name and she has always liked it. She has yet to get a comment about Casey Anthony, I wouldnt worry about that at all.
My sisters are twins: Casey and Courtney.

I didn't either. And even if it was a concern at all, that tramp won't be relevant forever. If you love the name I say use it. (I do like the suggestion of a feminine middle name to go along with it.)
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Even though a lot of you didn't care for the name, I'm actually kind of glad...if too many people liked the name it would already be more popular, and I want to avoid names that are over-used.
I also thought of Casey Anthony, but the truth is, I've liked the name Casey since I was 14 years old (looooong time ago) and even though I'm not 100% decided on it, I'm not going to let Casey Anthony ruin it for me. Besides, I'm not even pregnant yet...by the time I get pregnant and actually have the baby, Casey Anthony hopefully won't be as relevant as she is now
