Re: Book recs

  • The Hunger Games is a good one.  Also all the Sweet Valley High/Sweet Valley Twins books are good.

  • That's about when I read Dragonsong, Dragonsinger and Dragondrums by Anne McCaffrey. It's a huge series. Those ones were the best/kid friendly.

  • I think I was reading all the Agatha Christie books at that age but that's probably not so typical.  I'm sorry I'm not more help but I can't even imagine what 13 year olds are into these daysEmbarrassed
  • A (13 now) is really into the Inkheart series and others like it, and sci-fi adventure type books, and of course vampire series. She also really enjoys the cat series by Erin Hunter (though I think that it's a secret obsession - it's probably better tailored for 10-11 year olds). When I was about her age I enjoyed Christopher Pike books (mystery/sci-fi) and A enjoyed them too when I gave them to her, though she did say that one of them scared her a bit... She wouldn't touch some of the typical girlie series that I enjoyed growing up though, so it may depend on the particular girl you're talking about... I found B&N was actually pretty helpful in helping me to find books that were popular with certain age groups currently. Good luck, and don't forget to pick up a great book for you too!

I got her the first hunger games for her birthday -it should have arrived at her house today, so we'll see how she likes it.

    I loved Sweet Valley.

These feel familiar - are they fantasy?

  • The Erin Hunter series is called The Warriors and there are several different series of them.  Another good one specifically for teen girls is The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Steifvater.  Also, the James Patterson Maximum Ride series is realllly good.

  • If she likes vampire books the House of Night series or Vampire Academy series are good.

  • I just read one that was a kindle rec and it was really great. The Emerald Atlas. I think the oldest sibling in it is 14, so should be age appropriate. A bit Harry Potter-ish.

  • thanks! My list is growing. I'm not sure how she feels about vampires (she did not enjoy the twilight series - mostly because "Bella's a wimp!" - but I'll check into them.)

I have added the rest to my list!
