Not sleeping in PNP or crib

My 3 week old won't sleep in her PNP or crib for naps or at night.  She was doing fine the 1st week home, but now screams within 10 minutes of being put down.  She will sleep fine in our arms, her swing, bouncy seat and even sitting up in her boppy pillow, with/without noise machines, etc.  I am ok with that for now during naps, but not comfortable leaving her in those items during the night.  She is still too young to CIO, so I don't know what to do.  I try to put her in the PNP each time she falls asleep just so she gets used to again.  I've also tried putting her in as she is falling asleep to see if she can get herself to fall asleep in there.  I don't know if its an issue with lying flat on her back or she just wants to be held, but DH and I have to take night shifts so someone is up with her at night.   Any tricks to get her to sleep in her crib/PNP?

  • We have to tightly, not too tight though, swaddle DD. However, if she gets just a hint of hand out the top she wakes herself up. We use the Halo sleepsack swaddle and LOVE it. We were given one at the hospital and bought a second to have on hand. :)

  • Do you swaddle?  If not try it, it does wonders.

  • No advice but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone. My LO will only sleep in the bouncy chair, RNP, someone's arms, or next to me in bed (which I've done a couple of times out of sheer exhaustion). If I put him in the PNP or his crib, he wakes up within 20 minutes, screaming. We do swaddle but only from his chest down because he FREAKS out if we swaddle his arms down. We've decided that for now, we'll let him sleep wherever he will and once we get him sleeping in longer stretches, we'll try getting him in the PNP or his crib.

  • Same problem here!  He sleeps fine in our arms but it seems like when he goes flat, he wakes up.  Swaddling kind of works but only occasionally.  I was thinking about trying to put him in the PNP more during the day to get him used to sleeping flat.
