Hooray zumba!!

I went back to zumba for the first time in months yesterday. It was AWESOME. I really missed it. I even came home so pumped that I did 30 minutes of pilates just to take advantage of the energy boost!

Quick question: do you think I need to tell my zumba teacher that I'm pg? I'd rather not, and I felt great yesterday so I don't think it's going to be a problem to keep going. But I'm wondering if you guys think she should know. Thanks!

  • Yes. Please tell her. Just so she is aware. I am a Group Exercise teacher and I really appreciate it when my students tell me when their health status changes.

I worked out and taught up until the day I delivered by just listening to my body.

I have not told my zumba instructor only because the class is very large and it is not the type of class where I would get personal attention.  I would suggest if it is a smaller class then tell her so that she can provide modifications.  I have told my other fitness instructors for yoga and belly dancing.  Since those classes are more intimate.  Also you may want to get a heart rate monitor since zumba can be very high impact.  Sometimes my heart rate goes as high as 170 and I need to take it down.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for the feedback! I'll mention it to her at the next class. It really varies - sometimes the class is huge and sometimes we have less than a dozen. But I've been going for years so she know me. Can't hurt to let her know. Thanks again!

Zumba classes are a great way to exercise, and it is one of the best ideas to stay active during pregnancy, but you must also be mindful of choosing a form of exercise that allows you to monitor your heart rate and body temperature.

A great form of exercise through all your trimesters, allowing a safe and healthy environment for you and your baby is swimming. I highly recommend taking up the sport of swimming during your pregnancy.
