My tooth chipped again :(

One of my molars chipped back in first tri when I was flossing.  The same tooth lost a little bit more substance today when I was vacuuming.  It makes me sad :(  It will probably end up needing a root canal which I cannot do until after I have the bebeh.  I'm gonna be toothless Crying

  • I hope everything is working out for you and that you're not in any pain (or toothless!). I just did a search about teeth chipping and pregnancy, which is how I stumbled across your post. I am 15 weeks pregnant, sitting here at my desk at work...I just barely touched my tooth and a piece of it chipped?!?! I'm wondering if this is common. I'll call my dentist, for sure, but just wanted to see if any other bumpies were having this problem. I'm terrified that it's going to get worse...and that I'll be toothless, too Zip it!

  • Hello Ladies! I am a dental hygienist and I hope I can help answer your question/quell your fears. Just because your tooth is chipped does not necessarily mean you need a root canal. Only getting a dental exam can determine what exactly needs to be done and it could be as simple as a filling or even smoothing the tooth. It's just a coincidence that your teeth are chipping at this time - there is no relation to pregnancy unless you have extremely upped your intake of soda/sugar and your teeth have decayed from that. You may read the MYTH online that calcium is taken from your teeth by your baby when you are pregnant and weakens them or cause cavities. It is not true!! I recommend seeing your dentist so you can get a diagnosis and schedule treatment for when you feel comfortable. You can be treated anytime but some women elect to wait till after baby for personal preference. Many things can be done to save your tooth! You will not be toothless! :) Hope this helps.
