I plan on making a trip to Ikea today - I have never been so I don't know what to expect of the quality for a crib. My son and this baby will have to share a room so we want a chest of drawers (the stand up 5 drawer or 6 drawer) that will fit in their closet so we have more room for the crib and DS's bed. We have a dresser already but it won't work in the closet without losing space for the toy box and other stuff of DS's so we think this arrangement will work the best.
Do you have any recs on which ones to look at or avoid? Thanks so much!
Re: Ikea chest of drawers - quality?
This. We have the 4 drawer I think. I believe it is the hemnes. It's very sturdy, but like PP said, the wood is a little soft.
We have the 3 drawer Hemnes dresser in black-brown in LO's room. We love it. I think it looks really nice and it was a good price. It seems good quality to me. Now, it's not going to be passed down for generations or anything, but I think it will hold up fine. We have an Ikea bedroom set in the guest room (Malm) and it's held up well for 5 1/2 years so far.
The black-brown Hemnes dressers are actually made out of solid pine (with some fiberboard for the drawer bottoms and the back). I just checked their website and the gray-brown dresser is also solid pine, but the white one is particleboard. DH was insistent that we get solid wood for LO's dresser, so it ended up working out for us because it matches LO's espresso crib.
we have a Malm 6 drawer & 4 drawer. We positioned them right next to each other & put a changing pad on top of the 4 drawer. It worked perfect for us since both DH & I are tall.
The quality is 'fine'. I don't expect it to last her until she's 10, but I think they're fine for the next 5 or so years. They seem as sturdy today as they did when we 1st put them together about 20 months ago
I swear by the malm dressers. Cole has a 4 drawer, Owen has a 4 drawer, and I have 2 6-drawers. Cole has white, and Owen and I have black-brown. I don't have a problem with any of it.
The only problem I've had is previously, I didn't have enough drawer space, and I stuffed them so full, I popped out the bottom of the drawers. But since I increased my space and stopped abusing it, not a problem
