Do you use a bumper?

We've always used one of those breathable ones, but know that she's crawling and pulling up, she keeps hitting her head on the bars of her crib. Do you use one? Pros? Cons?

Re: Do you use a bumper?

  • YES!  Harm is a danger to himself with out a high comfy one.  They can be used as climbing apparatus though so we lowered his crib to the bottom so that even if he climbs he still can't escape.

  • yes I do with both - our are the real flimsy ones so they cant step on it to climb over it just crunches down -
  • Yes.  DD is a sleepy scoocher and is always bumping her head on the railing.  We have used them since they day we brought her home.  (I guess I'm a bad mommy, because she has slept with her stuffed froggy in the crib/bassinet since she was in the hospital.)

  • we are considering getting one cause she likes to stick her arms and legs out.  She acts like she is in jail and bangs her toys on the rails.
  • We do use the bumper but DD is still swaddled and doesn't move at all.  She likes to look at it!
  • No.  Never used one.  I liked the look of them but the risk wasn't worth it.  A number of my family members are doctors so I had lots of opinions thrown at me on this one and just didn't think it was worth it (I'd rather have a bumped head than something worse like suffocation; a cribs these days are made so that they hsouldn't get their hands/legs caught).  FWIW, my daughter has never injured herself on the crib b/c she didn't have a bumper (she's almost a year).

  • We put it in a couple months ago when Ben started sticking his arms/legs out of the bars.  He thrashes around so much while he sleeps that I was afraid he would break a bone.
  • Oh, and my 15 year old daughter had a bumper in her crib from day one and we had no problems.  It wasn't the big controversy back then like it is now.
  • I don't use one the risk was just too high for me. However I wish I had a breathable oneto keep her "plug" from hitting the floor every time she spits it out.
