Parenting after a Loss

When you put LO to bed....

How do you keep them warm?  I read the other day that you shouldn't swaddle them once they're strong enough to kick off the blankets.  DS can kick them off, but I wake up when I hear his breathing change, which is before he starts kicking.  However, DH and I are talking about putting DS in his own room soon, and I'm afraid the monitor won't pick up his breathing changes, and he'll kick off the blankets.

So, if I can't swaddle him, how do I make sure he stays warm?

Re: When you put LO to bed....

  • You can try sleep sacks over the pjs if you're concerned. Good luck!
  • We always put a onesie on under her footie pj's and she stayed warm enough!

This... DD hated being swaddled and for the longest time hated blankets in general. She was fine in foot PJ's.

  • DS only uses a sleep sack or pj's with feet. No blankets because he kicks them off. He hates being swaddled. Our house is kept at 75 degrees, and he honestly never gets cold. Right now he is napping just fine in only a onesie and socks, no blanket or anything. I worry more about him overheating than being cold. He gets hot and sweaty so easily, plus it's 115 outside here.

Ditto for us. She actually despised the sleepsack.

  • Sleepsack!  As soon as we stopped swaddling, we switched to a sleepsack.  We used the Halo brand ones, with the inverted zipper.  So much safer then loose blankets, and way more practical because it actually keeps LO warm all night.

  • Footie jams.  In the winter I'll put a sleep sack (light cotton) over his footie jams and possibly a onesie underneath.

  • We didn't swaddle very long b/c she didn't like it, and then we used the Carter's Microfleece Sleep Bags or just microfleece zip up pajamas (still use those, actually). Those things seem pretty warm to me!

  • I loved the Halo sleep sacks.  We also used the Carter's microfleece gowns that zipped up.  If your lo tends to get warm just get the cotton sleep sacks, my DD was burning up in the fleece ones.

I just picked up one of these at Kohls yesterday and can't wait to use it! I put Brynn in a a sleep sack for the first time since she's been in the hospital last night because she is a little stinker. See below...

  • Sleep sack until he was 8mos then footed pjs. Now just footed pjs and fleecy ones when it is winter. Footless pjs for fall/spring and short pjs for summer. But we live in TX so not too cold during winter for long and super hot in summer.
