What is everyone's thoughts on lifting in the 1st trimester? I know the general consensus is no lifting anything over 10-20 lbs later on in pregnancy, mostly due to ligaments being stretched out and the risk of tearing them and also your center of gravity being off due to the bump.... but I havent heard much about lifting in the 1st trimester.
Reason I'm asking: I'm required to do minimal heavy lifting in my job (probably around 30 lbs, twice a week). I'm not telling anyone at work that I'm pregnant yet since it's so early, but I'm questioning whether it is safe for me to be doing so.
Obviously I'll talk to my midwife when I see her next, but thought I'd throw it out there to you guys too.
Re: Lifting Heavy Objects During 1st Trimester
I routinely lift two 40 lbs children and so far so good. I don't plan on stopping until I have to. I think lifting 30 lbs 1-2x a week is ok as long as it feels ok to your body.
If you have been doing it then I would continue to do it (making sure you do it correctly) and I don't see any issue with it.
I weight lifted my whole pregnancy last time and plan to this time and definitely didn't stick to 10-20 lbs, my toddler weighs more than that!
