Cloth Diapering

Yeast question

So my ds seems to be trying to get another yeast diaper rash.  I had him in disposables on a long car trip and the next day he had the starts of what looked like yeast.  I treated it with Grandma El's and it got worse the next day and I started tinactin with a liner.  It went away, but now today he is red with one spot that might or might not be yeast.

So at what point would you treat your diapers?  I hate to bleach them if it isn't necessary since he is prone to yeast rashes and I am not positive that is what it is.  I am sure bleaching regularly isn't the best thing for the diapers.

Re: Yeast question

  • My ped thought that our LO had a yeast diaper rash, but after 4 days on the medicated powder and no improvement, my friend suggested some naked tushy time in the sun. It cleared it right up. I'm not sure if that's the case for you or not, but it's worth a shot.

  • Yeah I planned to do that this afternoon.  I figure I can go sit outside and let him be naked maybe even let him get in his little pool naked.  Fun for him, good for the rash.

I just can't decide if it is yeast or not.  I will probably hold off on bleaching the diapers until I have to.  If it doesn't clear up and stay gone, maybe then I will get my bleach on.

  • The sun's UV rays kill yeast.  Maybe try a hot, hot wash with Tea Tree Oil (TTO) and then sun everything.  Worth a shot before doing the bleach.

How much TTO do you use?  This is probably my best bet since I am not even 100% sure it is a yeast rash.  It just looks a lot like the starts of one.  I know my water temp is hot enough as it is always 122 or higher.  I usually do sun everything anyways because I am cheap and I live in TN so they dry quicker outside than in my dryer.
