Does anyone do one-on-one kid dates?

We're starting this up and I'm just wondering if anyone does this. Evan has a speech-based playgroup on Saturday mornings for an hour...so that means that Leah gets one on one time with one of us. But then I think we'll add another "date" night/morning in there so we can "switch kids" and do something alone with the other. (we do lots as a family so it's not like we are sacrificing family time or anything).

Re: Does anyone do one-on-one kid dates?

  • I think it's a good idea. And something they can look forward to as they get older.

we obviously only have one kid, and I get LOTS of one on one time with him! haha!

but, DH usually takes Evan somewhere once a week (typically weekends) so they can have some one-on-one time. Sometimes it's just a trip to Home Depot, or outside having him "help" with yardwork, sometimes they'll go out for breakfast or to the park.

It's nice not only that E and DH get some time, but I also get some alone time too!

  • I work at home, but it's a 8-5 job and Alex goes to daycare.  Mike is home for the summer until school starts, but he's been watching TV, playing legos and generally keeping himself occupied.

I've planned 2 Mike Fun Days.  (One in July and one in August.)  I take the day off and it's up to Mike what we do.  Last time we went to the park, Target for school supplies and a DS game, out to lunch, Cars2 at the movies.  By the time we got through all that it was time to get Alex at school.  I just hope that his next fun day doesn't involve Chuck-E-Cheese.  Uggg.

We also had an Ice Cream Lunch day in July and one in August.  Between the two of us, we couldn't finish a banana split for lunch on Wednesday.  LOL

I have one on one time with Alex while we grocery shop every week.  I'll probably start planning something a bit more fun once he's a bit older.

  • We totally do!  This past weekend DH took Tyler to a dig for coins place on Sat, then he took Bri to her favorite councey house on Sunday!  Then I just stayed home with the other each day and we did quiet one on one activities like some painting and some baking.  We love doing things as a family but equally enjoy one-on-one time!  It is one of the reasons I am happy with two kids, we can split up and do our own things if we want and no one gets left out.
  • it's not so much a date but we will take just 1 child shopping with us or I will take Ethan to timmy ho's to get donuts and coffee on a saturday morning
  • Not typically, though a few weeks ago my dh took Justin to watch his baseball game.  My dh hurt his leg so he isn't playing now.  I think maybe we'll do it more as the kids get older.  I think it's a gret idea.

  • DH will occasionally take Eve on a "mission" as he calls it. They both really like it. I have only gotten to take Eve for ice cream a couple of times because its just easier for me to stay with Nat right now. BUT.. I think we are gonna sign Natalie up for "book babies" at the library starting in september on thursday evenings.. and I was thinking one of us could take her to that and the other take Eve somewhere. We could even alternate weeks.

  • Not applicable to us yet.  But we definitely will.  My parents did them for my sister and I growing up and we loved them.  Some great memories!  So I want to do that with our kids too.
