Dallas-Fort Worth Babies

Possibly Relocating..

and I would like to know great things to do in the Southlake, Keller, Ft. Worth or surrounding areas. Also, I would like to know areas to avoid living within those areas. I hear those areas are really nice. I am from California and while you can't compare its nice to get a bit of insight.

Plus, How the hell do you ladies deal with the heat, LOL. I know, I know you get use to it and avoid going out with kids in the hottest time of day. Thanks ladies!

Not sure about the areas above since I live in the Dallas area but as far as getting used to the heat!  You never get used to it.  I'm a native Texan & hot is hot & you can pretty much plan on spending your summers doing some sort of indoor activity or swimming.  When the high is over 100 every part of the day is the hottest part of the day.  What you get used to is avoiding doing things outside during the day.

  • There is more to do in Ft. Worth b/c it's considered a city...zoo, art museums, night life,etc... S. Lake has a great town center to shop in along with other major retails (Home Depot, Central Mkt, Pier 1,etc...)  Less to do in Keller but it's close to S.Lake.  Grapevine has monthly events including several festivals through out the year and an outlet mall.  It is a small town, however.

Yes, it's hot in the summer.  We stay in, swim in pools and lakes (you may miss the ocean),etc..The remainder of the year the weather is decent.  In February, DFW, usually gets inclement weather-ice storms, snow and the occasional dust storm.

  • As for living, FW schools are not good, except there are some excellent W. Side FW elementary schools (Lilly B Clayton, Tanglewood and Burton Hill and even Ridglea Hills), but the middle and high schools are not good, and many of the elementary schools are really bad.  I love living on the W. Side near the museums, zoo and TCU.  Always so much to do for adults and little ones. Southlake and Kellar are very suburbia and little culture, (but also have great things to offer such as Southlake Town Center) but the schools are excellent.  It depends on what you are looking for and your price range.

  • We are in the same boat as you.  Possibly relocating and looking for an area with great schools.  We actuallly visited the area 3 weeks ago.  I really like Southlake.  We drove through Keller and Keller is less busy than Southlake.  I like the busy feel, so I prefer Southlake.  We were there 3 weeks ago for my DH to interview and we were traveling with our 3 week old...so we didnt get to explore as much as we would have liked.  If DH decides to take the job we get 2 more paid visits for up to 10 days.  You should keep me updated on what areas you are looking at!  We would be coming from Baltimore, Maryland.
