Biking while pregnant

Would you try it? I biked all last summer and it was amazing. I'm a pretty good biker with good balance (I haven't fallen from my bike since I was 12) and usually stick to fairly flat and safe bike paths. I keep thinking that if I rode my bike more, I would be able to stretch out those muscles that are super sore and causing pain.

What do you think?

Re: Biking while pregnant

  • I went biking while we were on vacation and felt very comfortable.  The place that we go is all connected by paved bike paths.

I think that if this is how you want to exercise, it is just fine.  Then again, I am not overly cautious when pregnant.

I believe that those who say you should not bike are really talking about the risk of falling off the bike.

    this. and mountain biking.

it's like any exercise: keep doing what you've been doing, but now is not the time to start ratcheting it up  or training for anything serious.

    trust your body.

  • Sounds like a great idea! Enjoy some biking.

  • I always feel/felt too unsteady on a bike.  But that's just normally and non-pregnant.  If you feel like you have any balance issues with a growing belly, I'd be extra careful.  Also, I am soooooo clumsy these days (and have been since probably 25 weeks or so).  I drop stuff constantly and bump into things all the time.  Bike riding would scare me.  It's all about your comfort though.  Be careful, have fun, listen to your body.

  • I biked a few times during pregnant, even in the 30+ weeks.  It's a bit more awkward but not too bad.  I also taught spin class until 36 weeks so I say go for it.

There many women that ride during pregnancy, some of them ride until delivey, other can't! A suggestion is a must: ask t your doctor!
