Amniotic Fluid smell question

Can it smell like fruit? I had a scare once before but it turned out to be a false alarm (BabyC dropping and pressing on my bladder lol, talk about embarrassing!) The spot of wetness in my panty-liner is in a different spot, like where blood would be from my period. It smells kind of like fruit IMO- like honeydew maybe? I heard amniotic fluid smelled sweet, but I've also heard its odorless. Any 2nd time Momma's care to share real life experiences. Dr Google is useless.

I cannot speak from experience as I have had 2 scheduled c-sections. I was just talking to a friend last week about her water breaking with her DD and she said amniotic fluid did smell sweet.

I worked on OB, and I always thought it smelled just a little sweet, but mainly sort of like bleach, of all things. So, umm, I don't know...

I have heard sweet as well. Id take out the pad and then see if anything is on your underwear after awhile to see if you need to call? Always better safe than sorry though.

Gross TMI here, but to me, it smells like after sex/semen maybe.... I know that makes me sound like a freak, but that is what it smelled like to me. With DD it broke in the hospital while I was there on bedrest, and I leaked all day. I smelled a lot of it inadvertently!

When my friend gave birth it smelled of ammonia or bleach.

Glad you asked this because I was curious too....I sweat so bad the other day at work (only in my crotch area) that I thought my water broke. I did a sniff test on my pants and the only think I knew to check for was pee and there was definitely NOT a pee smell so I called the OB who said come on in. After missing a full day of work (I was there for an hour) I found out it indeed was just sweat and I really wanted to know how to know what to look for next time. My friend told me that when my water breaks I "will KNOW" but I honestly thought it could have...there was fluid dripping down my legs and the seat of my pants was soaked. I was standing up so it's not like the sweat had accumulated from a plastic or leather seat. But all she kept saying was "trust me, you'll know" and I really didn't get how. When I described the occurrence to my mom and MIL both of them thought my water broke too and were ready to head to the hospital.

But at least now I'll have something else to check for next time.

In our birthing class the nurse told us it will smell sweet and lo and behold with my 1st LO, I was in doubt that my water had broke but the water totally smelled sweet.
Not a urine smell at all.
