For those of you who CD, how many cloth diapers would I buy to start out? I think I will follow advice given and use disposables through the newborn stage, so does 10 per baby per day sound about right? Less? More? I can't remember how many diapers DS went through a day when he was in size 1s, 2s and 3s.
Re: Twins and cloth diapering
For the first month or so we used prefolds and covers. I had 3 dozen prefolds and 12 covers.
Now we use pockets and AIO's. I think we have about 30 total and I do CD laundry every other day. We probably could get by with a few less, honestly.
This exactly.

For the first several months, we used fitteds and covers. I had a stash of 24 diapers and 8 covers, so I could easily go a day, sometimes a day and a half.
Now we use some all-in-ones and mostly one-size. Since I prefer to line dry the AIOs and OS shells, I have 30 of those, as line drying takes half a day to a day, depending on the diaper. We fill in with prefolds when we need to.
I'd recommend starting with fewer and covering the gap with prefolds. Then see how it goes and buy more as you determine you need them. Also, the diaper trial from Jillian's Drawers was great for us, since there were several diapers I thought I'd love that I ended up hardly using. They also offer a small multiples discount. And their customer service is amazing.
This is us. We have about 25-30 CDs for DD (she's 21 months now). We plan on getting 3 doz prefolds, as well as 35-40 CDs for the triplets.
