Need recs for 1st birthday gifts [boy or girl]

We have several birthday parties coming up soon so I'm looking for inspiration. I usually give Plan toys but wanted something a little more creative. Etsy would be great but any other suggestions are appreciated as well. I was considering charity donations but I don't know if that's appropriate.

A year or so ago I had several gifts to get for various people and went with scented rice filled animals and coordinating books. The animals were from this seller on etsy.

I got alligators and bunnies and then found board books that went "with" the animal.

I know its not exciting for a kid to open, but subscriptions to the National Wildlife Federation's baby magazine, Animal Baby, are $15-20 for a year, and they are so good.  My kids love them.  I keep thinking that would be a great 1st birthday gift.  They come once a month.

Membership to a local zoo, museum, play cafe, etc!

Books are also my go-to. My best friend always buys my daughter the Kohl's for Kids books with the stuffed animals.
