I'm going back to school in a week and have been having issues scheduling doctors appointments. These office all seem to be 9-5 when my work days tend to be 8-5 (with travel time its 7-6). Am I supposed to take time off for every appointment? I have a 1 month pedi appt next week at 4 pm and another with a specialist in 2 weeks at 3 pm. For both I requested the latest possible appt! What do you do?
My son has a ton of doctor appointments. I gave my manager a heads up - actually I tried to work part time for awhile but was asked to come back full time after on 2.5 weeks.
The appointments where I feel I need to be there (pedi appts if there's a shot involved or if I have questions for the pedi, surgery consults and other major follow-ups) I go. I try to schedule the first or last appt but sometimes that just isn't possible. I tell my manager as much in advance as possible and I'm available on my cell or blackberry while I'm OOO. Sometimes I just work from home those days or on at least one side of the appt time.
And I highly recommend requesting the first appt of the day - at least with the specialist. Less chance of getting bumped for an emergency.
I get off work at 4pm and even with most dr.s offices closing around 5 or 6, I can barely get in after work. It seems those are the first appts to go! I just schedule them for the latest (or earliest) I can and either leave early or come in late.

My H is off Monday's and Tuesday's so I try to schedule them for Monday mornings. But I don't like to miss them either and with them not having to go as often now I will take the time off in the morning of afternoon to go to if I can. Most employers are pretty flexible then there are some that are not.
My husband was considering taking off for one of the appts. Problem is that I have the car. So he would need to some how borrow a car and infant seat to take him, or get one of our parents to take them. Not sure if its just easier for me to take off that extra day...
Between both girls I feel like I am always taking time to go to an appt. I always try to get the earlies appt possible. Less chance of waiting around longer than necessary.

DH and I take turns with missing work for dr. appts.

I stack appointments so I only have to take off one day every few months. Once your LO is a little older it will slow down.
We tend to do: ENT (quickest), peds ortho (longest but not traumatic), then pediatrician (shots last) or dentist.
