Pregnant after a Loss

Ladies with Subchorionic Hemorrhage please come in!

Hi ladies.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with subchorionic hemmohage. I was in the hospital for bleeding on Monday, and they found a sch measuring 4cmX2cmX1cm on Tuesday. I was supposed to go back to work today, but woke up to spotting. I just sneezed a few minutes ago and with the sneeze came what felt like an intense RLP, and a gush of fresh blood. I will be calling my OB when the office opens at 9. I realize that bleeding is quite common with and SCH, so I'm trying not to worry too much, but this is the second bleed this week.

Has anyone had this happen? What did your doctor do for you? Monday they just sent me home with two days rest, and now it's happening again so I'm worried they will put me on bedrest. Also, did you feel severe cramping at any point? I was having cramps that were uncomfortable enough that I haven't slept yet.

TIA

  • I had a big gush of blood and was diagnosed with 2 SCH's at 10 weeks.  Thankfully I only had the one big gush, and then a few days of spotting.  However, it is normal to keep bleeding- they can either bleed out or be reabsorbed.  I did not have any cramping,

I was placed on pelvic rest and told to "take it easy."  I basically put myself on modified bed rest and tried to lay down whenever possible.  I did not lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk, did not clean, go grocery shopping, etc.  I was definitely still walking around and doing things, I just tried to rest as much as I could.  I also made sure to drink a lot of water.  3 weeks later at my NT scan, the SCH's were gone and had been reabsorbed.  Good luck, I hope this is just a little bump in the road for you!

  • I hemorrhaged at 12w and was diagnosed in the ER with a placental tear and SCH under it.  I don't know just how much I bled, only that when I woke up at 3:30 am to pee that I felt two huge gushes on the way to the bathroom and that my legs and pjs were soaked in blood.  I kept bleeding in gushes for a while after that too.  It finally started clotting about an hour later.

I *think* the SCH was about 2.5cmx2.5cm.  I was put onto bed rest for two weeks and then modified rest for two more.  I also found that every single time I tried to do something I bled more, so my body really needed to rest.  I bled for about 7-8 weeks and the bleeding went off and on from brown spotting to bright red blood.  The amount also varied.  Every time I thought it'd gone away, it'd come back.  It'd go to yellow (just like they describe your after birth bleeding) for a while and then suddenly, boom, it was red again and there was more of it.  It was incredibly frustrating and scary!

I had an u/s at 14w and it showed that the bleed was still there, though healing.  Apparently it was small enough that the radiologist said it was "resolved."  However, the tech showed me the bleed, so I knew it was still there.  He pressed on it to get a better picture, which caused me to bleed more.  My doctor also put me onto biweekly appointments for a while to check to make sure it resolved.

At about 18.5 weeks, I had a Level 2 u/s (they bumped my anatomy scan up from 20w) that showed that the placenta and bleed had healed, but that there was still blood in my cervix (it was in the mucus plug and you could see that it was chunky).  That came out over the next several days and I finally stopped bleeding around 19 weeks.  It was pretty weird to see that on the u/s and then see it come out later.

I didn't have cramps, but some ladies do.  Your uterus could just be trying to expel the blood.  You could also just be growing as that's pretty common at around 12w.  Hopefully your doctor will have some answers.  ((((hugs))))

ETA:  I forgot to add that I was on pelvic rest until 20w.  The peri kept me on until the bleed was completely resolved.  I also had my second anatomy scan then to check on the bleed.

  • I have a large SCH that hasn't resolved yet, but so far LO is doing just fine.

At 8w, I had 2 large gushes of bright red blood and then passed a gigantic clot -- u/s indicated the SCH was a big round 4.4 x 4.4 x 1 cm (LO was 1.7cm at that point). I was put on bed rest for a week, then on light duty and pelvic rest (including no orgasms) once the bleeding stopped -- I had several days of red-to-brown bleeding after the initial large bleed.

At 10w it got checked again, still there, still large, they did not bother measuring it, just said it would take a while to reabsorb. After u/s I had a day of dark brown spotting, which stopped.

At 12w, it got checked again, still there, still large. It's a crescent shape now (2 x 7cm), it's not affecting LO's growth, and LO is bigger than the SCH for the first time. I have not had any more bleeding/spotting.

My OB thinks it will resolve by 20 weeks but I have a hard time believing it when there has been little absorption so far. It's frustrating and scary. Hope yours goes away quickly!

  • I had a huge gush of fresh blood at around 12 weeks and continued to bleed for about an hour off and on. I was diagnosed with a SCH and it was 6 cm. I was on pelvic rest for about 3 days and when I saw my ob after that, he did not feel the need to put me on bed rest. About two weeks later I started spotting brown, sometimes heavy sometimes light and it lasted for two weeks. Dr. did warn me I would either bleed the SCH out or it would reabsorb on it's own. I also had cramping for most of the those two weeks. Which was to be expected since blood is in irritant. I did put myself on modified bed rest at the time, even though my Dr. told me I didn't need to be on bedrest.

I had u/s' every two weeks to make sure it was decreasing in size and by my 20 wk u/s it was gone.

  • I had a small SCH and had a few episodes of spotting. My doctor put me on pelvic rest.

  • I had one. It was pretty small (maybe 1cm across), so I didn't have too much bleeding from it. It was gone by 12w.
