Is this a popular name?

DH and I would like to find a name that isn't too popular but easy to spell and something we agree on. One name on our list is Shelby. I only know one Shelby and shes my age..late 20s. We agree on this name..its not for sure yet and we're not telling family our name until the baby is born.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks..I think this name is ranked close to 200 in the top 500 popular names.

I guess I sort of see the lists..and know where it stands on the top 500 names each year...but I like hearing how many you actually know..funny how so far we only know 1! Im not sure Im sold on the name..but DH likes it..and we call the baby by that name..and it feels right. I would love everyone's opinions on the name! I never thought it would be so hard to name this baby!

Love Shelby and surprised at the popularity. It's on our list for a future DD because I know a very special little girl named Shelby and I'd love to honor her. She's 13.

I would have thought that it was just a little higher because I went to high school with 2 Shelbys at the same time. I think it is a cute name.

In 7 years of teaching, I think I've had 3 total (or 3 that I can remember anyway!) They are all between the ages of 17 and 20 now.

It's too Steel Magnolias for my taste.

hmm..never heard of that..nn for michelle. I refuse to name our daughter michelle though...for personal reasons. I know ppl named michelle with the nn shelly though...

I know 3 Shelby females and 1 Shelby male. They are all 12 + with most being in their 20's and 30's.

I also know 5 dogs named Shelby so by association it is a pet name to me.

I was waiting for someone to say its a pets name! But honestly..there are several names that are so popular right now..that are "pet names". That won't stop me from naming our daughter Shelby. Ive never heard of a male Shelby..learning something new!

I've only ever known one Shelby and she was in her 50s I think. Something about this name strikes me wrong, I just don't like it.

I know 2 guys (weird huh?) named Shelby, both about 25 yrs old, My 14 yr old niece and my best friends 1 yr old daughter are named Shelby. I don't consider it a popular name.

I'm in my early 30s and have known 2 Shelbys- one is a few years older than me and one is a teenager. It's a cute name- it's a real name and you are spelling it correctly. I like it!

It reminds me of Julia Robert's character in Steel Magnolias. I don't know if that's good or bad but that's all I think of. Although NMS, I think it is a fine name. I haven't known a Shelby personally but did hear one being called by her mom on vacation last week.

I know of probably 5 in my area. Only one of them is under the age of 3 though, the rest are in their late teens/early 20's. It's definitely NMS but I wouldn't consider it popular right now.
