Ok so you all know how bizarre my family on SO side is by now....

My poor innocently naive SIL has gotten back on the baby shower thing again....

She wants to host it....But she has bad taste, bad habits, and bad bad bad planning skills.

Last one she threw (baby shower that is) was broken up by cops....for being too rowdy and people being DRUNK....

I would like to try to be heavily involved so that I can almost control the situation before it turns into a clustered mess of god only knows what.

Am I being ungrateful by taking into consideration our serious age difference?  13 years apart - she being the younger??

I would think some of the outcome of the day is dependent on the guests. You culd tell her something like since you can't drink it would be great if everyone else would join  you for a day a no drinking. However if someone is throwing you a shower you kind of just have to go with it. IMO.

No you are not.

Two options One is to enlist the help of some family member that has better taste, ect..This person could be from your family, a good friend, or someone else from SO's family. The excuse you make would be something along the lines of you only want/feel up to one shower or the same people would be invited to both so why not just have one large one at maybe at a church that doesn't allow alcohol.

Two You can turn her down. It is not required that you have a shower.

You could suggest that she have the shower at a restaurant or even at a park where drinking isn't permitted.

Ditto having someone co-hostess with her, if she is receptive.

You could also ask to have a sprinkle and limit the guest lists to people who wont turn it into a drunken brawl.

Sooooo.....my SIL and BIL cornered me to talk about the shower.....

They asked me where I was gonna have it and what I wanted as a theme....

However my sweet step daughter - and son - not the evil one ....stepped forward that very afternoon and demanded that she get to help me 100% with the planning and execution of the shower.

So thank you baby jesus I am off the hook with the SIL....some kind of devine intervention there....woohoo.

So now I am off to start the hunt...found a great location in the East Village.  Got myself a luau/surfer/rockabilly theme to match Kieran's nursery theme.  My step daughter has got the cake to a science seeing that she works in an awesome bakery - Red Velvet cake with cannoli filling, white icing with a big ole surfboard decor with his name written on it with little skulls dotting the I's - as for the baby symbols - we will see what we will have her choose.
