Measuring ahead...anyone else?

I went to my appointment yesterday and I can't get this out of my mind. I am 24 weeks and apparently I am measuring 28 weeks and I've only gained about 10 lbs. It makes sense, since I've been feeling like a fat cow lately and bending over is getting harder and harder to do. When he moved he's pretty much up at my ribs already and it's sooo uncomfortable. This is my second pregnancy, so I know it's probably not that big of a deal since my insides have been stretched out to their max once before. I just can't help but worry. My doctor is going to set me up for another ultrasound to check out the size of my little man and i'll be taking my glucose test again.

At my last ultrasounds they change me EDD to whatever he is measuring. I originally started with November 4th because I know the date I ovulated. Then moved me to November 2nd and then at my NT scan it was moved to October 30th. I think what freaks me out is if he is measuring bigger again then they'll probably change my date.

Is anybody else measuring ahead?

Re: Measuring ahead...anyone else?

  • I'm measuring a week ahead.  It's new to me though because with my first I measured about 2 weeks behind and with my second I always measured right on.  this is my first boy though so maybe that's why.  Not changing my due date though.  I'm positive on when I conceived so he's just a slightly bigger than average baby.

  • When I had my a/s at 21 weeks I was measuring 2 weeks ahead. They said he weighed a little over 1lb (not close to the 10-12oz the average baby is at this stage). The dr said he is just growing fast, but she didn't change my due date. I have only gained 12lbs and I'm not that big, I also feel like I haven't grown in a couple weeks so we will see where he's at when I go back in August.

  • i'm measuring 9 days ahead and the doctor told me that the due date is most accurately predicted based on the very first ultrasound that they do, and that they do not change the due dates for babies who are measuring ahead at this point because every baby is different. Apparently all babies grow/develop at the same rate early on, so its much easier to date them before 10 weeks. After that it's really up to the genes.

She thinks that we're measuring ahead because my husband's who family are giants and their babies are always SUPER long/tall.

  • I'm measuring 5 days ahead with a 15oz little one but they didn't change my due date. My doctor said that I have a two week window either before or after that I could fall into.

  • I'm measuring a week and a half ahead and would not let my OB change my due date. I know when I ovulated (temping) and I'm absolutely not going to chance inducing before this baby is fully developed. DH and I are both tall people and I'm a firm believer that the baby will come when he is good and ready.

  • My LO was measuring at 20w5d when I was only 19w2d but my next appointment isn't until tomorrow so we will see what my doctors thoughts are. I have only gained about 4 lbs though so far so I don't think that has anything to do about it in my case.

Just be sure to have your doctor confirm baby's size before they try to induce you though if you don't go into labor on your own terms!

  • I'm measuring 8 days ahead but they didnt' change my due date.  My DS was a big baby- he weighed 8lbs and was born 3 weeks early so I'm not extremely surprized that I'm measuring ahead.  I do hope to give birth in October though so I'm all for it.
