Tman woke up in the middle of the night crying. We both ran into his room and he was sobbing from a bad dream he had. I gave his a giant hug and James told him it was just a dream and everything is all right. After a few minutes and him calming down quite a bit, I sent him to the restroom and then laid down with him for a few minutes to help him settle back down.
When I was a kid, if I had a bad dream, I would go into my parent's room and lay down with my mom. I would tell her I had a bad dream, she would ask me if I wanted to tell her what it was about (usually I did not), then we would just go to sleep. She'd let me stay there as long as I needed. I would stay until I stopped replaying it over and over or until I was super tired or uncomfortable.
What did your parents do when you had a bad dream? Do you do that for your kid(s) now?
Re: What do you do for bad dreams
I would go into my parents room and they'd usually let me sleep on the floor in their room or walk me back to bed and lay with me until I fell back asleep, but that was maybe 8 and up. Before that, my Mom says there were many nights of musical beds... my brother or I would come into their bed, they'd go into our beds and so on.
If this ever happens with our kids, I'm sure we'd either have them come into our bed or go sleep in their bed with them (at least until they were sound asleep).
