Netlfixs prices going up for some...

I like the streaming part, but not everything is online.  This sucks that you have no discount for getting dvd's and streaming

  • I know, I just got an email from Netflix telling me my $10 service is going to $15. Now I have to find the last DVD I received so I can cancel the DVD portion of it. $7.99 for unlimited streaming and $7.99 for unlimited movie rentals (1 at a time) is what we would start paying.

  • Yeah, we will be cancelling...  It hasnt made sense for us to stay with netflix for a long time, and this just seals the deal.    With Redbox having $1 rentals, I could rent 15 movies a month for the same price as 2-3 through netflix.   It sucks that I wont have streaming anymore, but most of the movies I would stream are also available on Starz (which we have).   Blar though, I have had netflix for around 5 years!

  • We're going to cancel the DVDs. We mostly use the streaming anyway and there is a Red Box just down the street if we want to get something current.
  • I didn't get an email. Is it changing for everyone?

  • we;ve had a movie sitting for oh, 6 months....   so yeah, we dont use the dvds so much any more...  we will keep the streaming for tv shows and kid stuff...    and hit redbox if I can ever stay awake through a movie.

This is the first step before they go to only Steaming. They are expecting to stop shipping DVDs by 2013, at which point they project that their DVD rentals will have peaked. They are splitting the cost to see how well their business model (Streaming only) will do. The company spends half of their budget on the cost of shipping DVDs alone. By going to Streaming only, they are hoping to be able to spend more money on licensing and increasing their Streaming catalog so that they carry largest online streaming content available.

We are a Streaming only family. We don't have cable and we rarely watch the DVDs anymore. I am totally fine with cancelling DVDs.
