Crib soother question

We have been doing some light sleep training and it's going really well! We have been using a crib soother and it's fan.friggin.tastic- however, I keep reading about the environment being the same when the baby wakes up lightly as when he went to sleep. I've noticed he has gotten up 2x the last couple of nights (as opposed to 1x right after we began "training"). Gets the paci, gets the soother. I know, that's 2 crutches we will have to break sooner or later, which I'm ok with. I just don't want to be working our way up to me needing to go in every 25 minutes to reset the daamn thing. Do you think the soother, becasue it's awake when he goes to sleep and off when he wakes is hurting our ever so hopeful STTN process?

Re: Crib soother question

  • Our pedi did say that the environment under which LO falls asleep should remain the same throughout their sleep. This would make me think that swings, vibration, rocking, pacis, music, etc. are all things that LOs could develop dependencies on to fall asleep and stay asleep. Each child is different, but when we did sleep training with Charlie I read the entire Ferber book and The No Cry Sleep Solution (to get an idea of both sides of the spectrum) and implemented the plan as recommended. It worked wonders for us and he sleeps 10-11 hours straight each night. Good luck! :)

  • If you want to keep usingna crib soother, we have the Fisher Price Rainforest one and there's a button baby can press to activate it. We got it after a friend said his son loved it and randomly during the night they'd hear it turn on over the monitor. That way once your baby is old enough to press the button, you won't have to go in and reset it yourself. But if you think it's going to be a crutch/problem then I wouldn't use a soother. Personally if that's my baby's one crutch for sleeping I would be happy, but she's an awful sleeper....
