Acupuncture ? Pls. help if you can

I have a chronic neck/back problem and have been having severe pain. I have done the physical therapy, which has been spendy (like $800 for a 6 week session). I want to try acupuncture.?

My ? are:

How expensive are they? I have a $500 benefit a year with my insurance but would like to know the cost if I continue. Have you had a positive experience with it? and How long is the treatment? (once a week, once a month, 6 months)

I have zero experience with this so any info can help. TIA?

  • Just curious, have you tried a chiropractor yet?  I've had back problems since I took a tumble at work and that really helped me.

Jeremy did acupuncture for awhile for shoulder pain - he's had rotator cuff problems from an old football injury.  He went for about 3 months, twice a week.  From what he said his shoulder felt a little better but not really significantly.  He stopped going after his referral ran out and didn't bother asking for another set of visits.  He broke down and got a cortizone shot awhile ago and that's helped a lot.

  • That is great that your insurance covers it. It most likely cover massage therapy too. We have an acupuncturist at my work and I know her sessions are about $65-$95 depending on what you are having done. Make sure when you find an one that it takes your type of insurance. I went for head aches and it helped but did not solve the issue.

I would love to work on you some time and see what you have going on. I take many different types of insurance. Make sure you are doing lots of stretching and drinking lots of water. If you have any questions let me know.

  • Have you thought about looking into the laser treatments?  My nanny herniated a disk in her lower back about 2 months ago and was hosptialized.  She did physical therapy but it didn't help much so she started doing this laser therapy.  Its been amazing!  I have 3 herniated disks in my neck and get flare ups with them.  I'm thinking this is what I will try next time.

  • I had amazing luck with Peishan Chen, everything was covered by insurance so I'm not sure I price.  If you mention her web site you get a free visit.

I sprained my ankle 5 days before a month long backpacking trip in Europe.  I was on crutches, after 4 appointments the swelling was completely gone and I was carrying my 40 pound pack without anything.  I was amazed, I was going to cancel my trip until a friend told me to see what she could do.  She also helped me out with morning sickness.

  • I also saw Dr. Chen and liked her a lot. I went for edema in pregnancy and only went twice as I started bleeding during the second treatment and had to go to L&D.  Anyways...I liked her a lot, her staff was great and they handled the insurance end of things.
  • I did acupuncture for fertility.. I really liked it.  It was very relaxign. And I was totally freaked about the needles at first!   It was $75 each time I believe.
