Non-clicky poll: Cameras at your LO's daycare

Does your LO's daycare have cameras that you can log into and watch? If so, do you use them/like them? If not, do you wish they would?

Re: Non-clicky poll: Cameras at your LO's daycare

  • Alex's new daycare has cameras, that I can log into and watch. And I hate them. I think they're ridiculous and they don't make me feel 'safer' being able to watch him. I think behavors/actions are so much left up to interpretation. I know it's his first week, and most of the time he spends crying in a corner, but I still don't think I'll like them when he's adjusted. But that's just me.

  • We use an in home DCP and she does not have cameras.  I think I'd like the idea of having them though.  I'd like to be able to check in on DS if I wanted to.

  • Yes, ours has them. I used to use them a lot more than I do now, but part of that may have been because I hated my job so much and wanted the distraction ;)

I still check in from time to time, just because it's interesting to see how he's spending his day. I don't use them to feel safer or to watch what the teachers are doing, it's just neat to see them all sitting on the rug for story time or all out on the playground for water day.

    Cameras definitely weren't a deal-maker for me.

Ours has them, but not ones you can get online.  That said, they have a big tv in the front entrance area, and you can see all of the rooms at once.  If you want, you can view just one room.   I used it a lot at first to see how he was doing when we got him, and when I leave in the morning (if I do drop offs), I look at him through the camera to make sure he's ok.  I like them because the cameras are right by the offices, and the teachers know that they're always "on camera."  For some reason, this helps me feel like if they suspected an issue they could watch and/or record it.
  • Love them.

At first it was all about me being comfortable, and wanting to see how she was adjusting.

Now I check in a few times a day just to see. Maybe 30 sec each time I view. A little more the other week when she wasn't feeling well, just to make sure.

It's given me the opportunity to see her behavior (still doesn't really play with other kids, prefers to be alone), and helps me know what to ask her teacher.

Like when three days in a row I noticed she wasn't really napping. Even though her paper said she napped for 2+ hours, I could see her moving in the bed, kicking her legs, etc. And she was a total cranky butt at night. Great. So after talking to DD I discovered they weren't giving her her paci, which she is supposed to get at naptime (only).

After discussing with the teacher we realized that the teacher goes on lunch during naptime, and someone else rotates in. Who decided (on their own) that DD was too old for a paci.

    That's a whole 'nother topic.

Anyway, teacher rectified the situation, DD now gets her paci, and naps beautifully, and no more cranky butt at night.

IPoint being, if they didn't have the cameras, I would've never known that she wasn't really sleeping.

DD's preschool only has them in the classrooms, but I really wish they had them in common areas as well. Why? Because DD hates the playground at school. Cries when they go. Which is so odd, because she loves every other playground we go to. But she can only tell me so much. And the teacher says she has no idea. But I think if I could just watch a couple of minutes a day I might be able to help figure it out.

Sorry so long. That's my story.

If nothing else it gives me a little peace of mind.
