Upstate NY Babies

does anyone know...?

Of any VBAC friendly docs in the Syracuse area? I have already been to the VBAC board and they suggested my local ICAN chapter to me, but there are no docs listed under the ICAN chapter of Syracuse, only agencies affiliated with their organization. I am not pregnant yet, but we are going to start TTC in August, so I want to think about my options ahead of time. A Google search brought up little info.

Re: does anyone know...?

  • I *believe* my Dr. does VBAC, but I'm not positive.

One thing I do know (as I have a friend who is going through this right now) is that St. Joseph's does not do VBAC's, so you'll have to find a Dr. affiliated with Crouse.

Anyways the practice I go to (who does deliver at crouse) is Dr's Loftus, Ryu and Bartol. I LOVE all 3 doctors, they are amazing, but my favorite is Dr. Bartol. She's doing my c/s next week (I'm having a c/s because I'm having twins)! Their # is 671-0070 - worth a call!

  • My Dr is.  She is Dr. Weinstein at the Woman's Wellness Place.  They to are affliated with Crouse.
  • EmilieM is a doula in the Syr area.  I bet she can tell you!

I know the practice I used to go to no longer does VBACs.  They did them when I delivered, but soon after that they stopped doing them.  Which is sad because the Doctor who started the practice, Dr. Waldman, was one of the first Obs in the country to start doing VBACs and is a huge advocate for VBACs.

  • I had my c-section for DS @ Crouse, and I know they are the most VBAC friendly hospital in the area. When my doc asked about future pregnancies and what I wanted to do, I hesitated. He said "I will entertain any thought you have about a VBAC, but I think you are going to have big babies." At least he will entertain the thought, but he seems to not be very educated about the topic or he would not have made this statement. Thanks for the input so far, it was really hard for me to find info online. A friend of mine goes to Weinstein, maybe I will check her out. Does anyone know what all goes into or how hard it is to switch ob's?
