Trying to Get Pregnant

Question for those who have hit the 1 year mark (kind of long)

I?m just feeling a little frustrated and uninterested in temping lately.  We are in month 11 of TTC, and only in cycle 6.  I?ve ovulated twice since August.  So there is where my frustration comes from.

So, part of me wants to take a break from temping. Mostly because I feel like it?s useless if my body isn?t working properly anyway.  I will be making an appointment with my doctor in early August (that will be our  1 year mark).  So, I?m afraid to stop temping in case he will want to see my charts from the past year.

Sorry this turned out to be so long, but my question is, if you have hit the one year mark and had that doctor?s appointment, did they even look at/care about your charts?  Do you think it?s in my benefit to stick it out and keep temping?

It depends on your doctor. Mine did and was grateful to have the info, but others just dont believe in it and toss it aside. I think it's good to have just in case, but if you have only ovulated twice in the last 10 months, I would see the doctor now and not wait for the one year mark. that is really for people who are having somewhat normal cycles and have no reason to think something might be amiss. Not the case for you, and any doctor worth their salt will see you under those circumstances. HTH!

Same here.  I wouldn't wait until August if you're not really O'ing.  GL!

  • I just hit the one year mark two weeks ago and this week I started Clomid. I went to my ob in March to find out what the next step in TTC was. My husband and I both joked that the issue was with his sperm count but the issue was with me. After having an HSG done, I found out I have one blocked tub.

Are you using a OPK to know that you have only O six cycles? Per my OB, even with a block tube the OPK test will still read Big Smile...so I was really confused so I'm glad I went a little earlier than the one year mark just because I was like you, emotionally drained all and a bit frustrated. I'm glad I went, I now have answers!!!

This.  I would also see an RE instead of your OB.  If you need a referral, I would call your OB to get one so you don't waste time getting in with an RE.

My RE asked if I tempted but didn't ask to see my charts. They pretty much asked how long my cycles are and whether or not I get + OPKs. They rely more on the OPKs now, but I'm sure every Dr is different. Like the PPs said, I would contact a Dr now instead of waiting. Good luck!

No, I am in my 6th cycle, but have only ovulated twice. I'm not using OPKs, but I temp to know when I ovulate.

Thanks for the responses ladies. I guess I have just been waiting until the one year mark to call the doctor because I was holding out hope that my body would get into gear. But I'm definitely losing that hope, so I guess it's time to call. Thanks again!

  • It is totally up to you....

I quit charting on cycle 17.  It was becoming more of a burden to me than a benefit.

My OB glanced at my charts but didn't pay much attention.  My RE never looked or even asked about them.

This is what I'm worried about. In that case, it wouldn't be worth it for me to keep charting. *sigh* I can't decide!

And just a little fun fact, it looks like we live pretty close to eachother! I'm only about an hour and 15 min away from Rochester Smile

  • My doctor did not look at my charts, but was glad I was charting. I'm really uninterested in temping this cycle (on CD13 and haven't started yet), but I want to have this cycle's chart for the RE next month. While I'd advise a break, the one when you have a doctor's appointment may not be wise if they want the most recent data.

I think it's normal to hit a wall with temping. I took a break from serious temping for a little while, and it helped my morale, for sure. The downside is, it seems as though everytime someone here (kdg for instance) takes a break, they go and have a crazy long cycle and have no idea where they are. So it can be less stressful not temping, or more.

  • My OB saw zero value in temping. Her nurses didn't even know what it was. My RE looked at/copied them but really just looked for confirmation that I really and truly wasn't Oing. I've only Oed once in 18 months and really 3 cycles is the same as 10 as far as I'm concerned when you're not Oing. Like pp said, I'd go ahead and skip the OB and head to a RE.

Ugh, exactly. You just put my feelings into words better than I did. And I remember seeing kdg's posts...as much as I want to just stop temping for a while, I agree that it might make me more stressed because my cycles are SO long.

GL at the RE next month! I hope things start turning around for you soon Smile

  • You've gotten some great advice in this thread. The only thing I'll add is that it's one thing to not be emotionally ready to see an RE yet, and that's more than OK. But if you see there's a clear issue (not Oing) and it's been ongoing, odds are that you will be better off not waiting a few more months if you want to at least lay down the groundwork for a good action plan moving forward by the time you're actually AT the 1yr mark.

  • I feel your pain... I'm on month 11 also... I stopped temping because.... well, it was depressing.. Long cycles are awful.... I hope your OB is helpful...Good luck to you! I will also be making my 1 year appt soon.

  • You've been given a lot of great advice! My doc did look at all of my charts and he didn't care that I took 2 months off from temping. I also totally agree with getting into an RE, my doc even checked my insurance for me and would have made my appt for me.

Either way, I'm sure that anyone could understand you not temping after this long, everyone needs a break sometimes. Good luck!

  • My RE didn't even mention my charts. Also, the nurse gave them back to me after we meet with the RE. Me, I haven't temped since March, and honestly, I've been enjoying it. I'm not sure what your RE would end up doing, this was just my experience. Also, IMO, I don't think missing one month would make all that much of a difference.

I did get some great advice! You ladies are awesome. Big thanks to you all.

I didn't think I was emotionally ready for an RE yet, but with each passing day I'm leaning more toward the idea that it's time. Thanks again.

  • My RE could have cared less about my charts. I actually quit temping around cycle 9-10. I felt that I knew my body pretty well at this point. AF has come at the exact day I thought it would each cycle since. On a side note, I would call and make an appointment at the RE now. Some offices have about a 3 month wait. You can always cancel if you get your BFP. GL!

  • We are in a similar situation:  We're in month 13 (almost into month 14) and cycle 8.  I'm on CD61 with no O in sight.  When I first told my Dr we are TTC, she did CD3 b/w and u/s (because these whacky cycles are typical for me, and they do indicate a possible problem).  All of that came back normal.  I contacted her about a week and a half ago to see if there's anything I can do to help regulate my cycles. THey're ALL OVER the place. From 35-70+ and this one is gearing up to be the longest yet.  I have an appointment on July 8th.  Hoping for some help and answers!  I have been charting since Sept and continue to chart..as old as it is at this point! haha  I would keep temping unless it's just causing you more stress.  I'm sure he'll have enough to look at if you want to stop!

Good luck...I do feel your pain! :(

  • I agree with the girls who said you should see your OB now. Mine did not ask to see my charts but I was able to give her a breakdown of the info and she was greatly appreciative.
