High-Risk Pregnancy

Succenturiate Lobe

Hello again everyone! I posted a while back (about 5 weeks ago) about bleeding and  clotting during third tri.  Since then, I have been going in weekly for placental monitoring and yesterday my doc told me that I have a succenturiate lobe on my placenta.  He assured me that if I were to have a massive bleed and needed to deliver now (I'm 32 weeks) that the prognosis would be good for my little girl but that she would need to be transferred to a larger hospital with a NICU. I asked him if he thought this was likely and he said no, he just knew it was reassuring to know that she was doing so well. Now...fast forward to last night and all of my google research, as well as digging into my nursing texts...and I am freaking out a little. Does anyone have any experience with this? Was a c-section necessary? Did you go to term? I asked if we could wait two weeks for the next appointment and he said yes...but now I am regretting that.  Oh, my "accessory lobe" is also considered a "marginal" previa....which is why I have been having the bleeding.  I have atleast one episode of bleeding with clotting a week. Thanks for any advice or experiences you can tell me about!

I just happen to be lurking.... but I had this during my pregnancy.  Mine was found during my 20 week ultrasound.  Fortunately my placenta and extra lobe were located at top of my uterus, so the previa part was not an issue.  I was still monitored closely especially towards my due date.

I had bleeding off and on during my entire pregnancy.  Very scary and stressful!  When I delivered my beautiful baby girl the doctor made sure that she got all of the placenta including the accessory lobe.  There is an increased risk of excessive bleeding/hemorraging if they don't remove all of it during delivery.

Good luck to you and stay off of Google!!!

  • I had this with my 1st pregnancy.   It actually was not discovered until delivery ( I only had an US at 7 weeks to confirm pregnancy).  I never had any problems at all/no bleeding.   Hope all turns out well!
