Hi ladies, I've just recently decided I want to CD number 2. I'm going to use mostly prefolds and covers, but I've seen a few AI2 systems that I really like (Flip by BG and Best Bottoms). I'm trying to figure out how to start my stash and how many will be "enough" diapers. Would:
2 dozen prefolds (I was thinking Imagine indian prefolds... do I need 2 dozen per size?)
8 covers/wraps
3 flip covers w/inserts
3 best bottom w/inserts
And I know that for a newborn, I'll be using mostly the prefolds and covers. Am I on the right track? I appreciate any help and feedback.
Re: CDing newbie - what should I start out with?
How often are you planning to do laundry?
Mostly I think it is on the right track. I love my Flips. Since my daughter fit into them (around 6 weeks old, 12 lbs) it is all I use. I have 5 Flip Covers, 18 Flip inserts, and 18 prefolds (these won't last much longer). I do laundry every 2 days. I could probably go 3 days without washing though. HTH.
I think starting with prefolds is a great way to go. They're inexpensive and versatile.
24 prefolds should be just fine, although you may want another 6-12 more for the newborn stage. I would recommend waiting to purchase a high number of the larger size until after baby arrives and you know if you like them. Maybe just get 12 if you want to have a few on hand before baby arrives.
8 covers/wraps is probably more than enough, we did alright with 4 and 6 should be plenty.
Flips/Best Bottoms - both of these systems get great reviews on here and I think starting out with a few of each is an excellent way to go, then you can see if you like one more than the other.
My one recommendation is to not overbuy your OS diapers before baby arrives. What you think you will like and what you end up liking best can be completely different things:)
I don't actually have any covers, yet.
This is just my starting out list, to see what all we need to get. Thanks for your input! I'm thinking of getting some Thirsties duo wraps for covers, and I know they come in 2 sizes, so should I get 6 size ones and maybe 4 size twos (if I have the flips and BBs)?
Haha, yah - I found that was true with just about anything parenting-related the first time around, and I didn't even CD!
Thanks for the input! I really appreciate it. I'm going to lurk a bit more on this forum, too
