What defines STTN?

LO typically sleeps from between midnight and 1am until 6 or 7am. Does this count as STTN, or is this not until she gives me a full 10-12 hours?

Re: What defines STTN?

  • I think sleeping through the night is a 5 hour stretch.  I won't say my LO is sleeping through the night until he sleeps from the time I put him to bed to 5 or 6 am in the morning.

  • In my opinion, it's when LO's asleep, and I fall asleep, and LO doesn't wake me up again until at least 6:30am.

The last two nights, LO has been sleeping 9 straight hours (9:00pm-6:30am, 8:30pm-5:30am)

On the first night, we woke up at 6:30am and stayed awake.  This morning, LO was up at 5:30am, DH fed him a 5oz bottle and he fell back to sleep from 6:00-9:00am.

I think if I can fall asleep at 10pm or so and not be woken up again until the sun's up, that's STTN!

  • I always thought STTN was defined by a stretch of sleep 5 or more hours.

  • I think, according to the pedi, it's 6 hours. Because our LO sleeps from 9pm - 4am its considered STTN. But I won't be happy until he sleeps to 8am.

  • To me STTN = I put baby to bed and he doesn't wake or need a feeding for 10 - 12 hours.

This (to me) is STTN. DD started this at 11.5wks old and I would love if H would start sooner!

  • I think technically it's a 5 hour stretch of sleep.

For me? It means not having to get up with lo at any point during my sleep. So, sleeping 10-12 hours.
