BBQ help!

We are hosting a barbeque over 4th of July weekend.  Dh kept adding to the guest list and now we have 22 adults and 15 kids committed to coming.

I have a small baby pool (blowup) that I'll have set up for any kids who want to play in it (as well as extra swim diapers for a quick change).  I'll also have watermelon and bubbles for the kiddos.  However, if the weather keeps up the way it does, not many of them are going to want to be outside for any length of time so I need to find some kid friendly activities that we can do indoors.

Other than generally just making sure that tables and chairs are moved out of the way so they'll have room to play, what can I do?  Kids ages will range from 5 months to 5 years.  Any other general advice?

I won't freak out... I won't freak out...

  • That's a lot of kids!

You could give them a bunch of water balloons.  And then offer a prize to the kid that cleans up the most busted balloon pieces :)

We had a bbq yesterday.  I always stick the kids in Layna's room and just let them play.

  • Do u have a bubble machine? Target has a amazing one! Sand/water table outside, sprinkler, slip-n-slide. Inside you could set up a fort, a fishingame with a sheet and cheap dollar store prizes, tunnels, butcher paper taped to the walls w washable crayons, balloon volleyball...you'll do great! Don't freak out!!

  • We did something like that for DH's b-day and we set a canopy up over the pool. It was a huge hit..all the kids loved it (except mine, who was in molar teething hell that day). We also let the kids play in our playroom (study) and it was trashed in a matter of minutes! Everyone had fun though. GL. I have a blog post from a few weeks ago showing our backyard set up.
  • Play-Doh is fun for all ages. If you are feeling crafty, you could make your own.
  • You'll probably be surprised how many people actually stay outside.  We had DD's 1st birthday party this time last year and almost everyone stayed outside while the kiddos played in the baby pool, sand/water table & the sprinkler we had set up.  As long as there is a moderate amount of shade to keep the sun off everyone's head/neck/shoulders it really isn't *that* bad.

As for inside stuff - lots of balls (like the big bouncy ones), coloring books and  blocks/legos are always a huge hit.
