Before you go, read them Make Way for Ducklings then visit the Public Gardens with the duck statues and ride the swan boats. I still remember doing that as a child.
Just hanging out at Boston Common or Public Gardens and doing the Swan Boat tour in PG. My kids loved the wading pool at the Frog Pond in Boston Common, I think it opens the last week of June as a wading pool and there is a cheap carousel next to it and it is a few minutes to the Swan Boats. Oh, and the Swan Boats are cheap too.
My kids LOVED Christopher Columbus Park and just going in the spray area but also sitting on benches and watching people walking their dogs. And of course eating in Quincy Market, they loved getting ice cream and sitting on the steps, right on the other side of Faneuil Hall (sp) going towards Christoper Columbus Park is a carousel that we did not have a chance to ride. And in Faneuil Hall there are usually performers on the weekend.
We went last year and my kids favorite things were the free or really cheap things and not the Children's Museum or the Aquarium and I would not do either of those again, just mostly hang out in parks and DS still asks to go back. I miss living outside of Boston and working in Boston.

I love this!!! I googled the book and the library has it so I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. Great suggestions.
