I hate my Walmart. I buy the Parent's Choice brand of formula... the gentle stuff. Its $8 cheaper than Enfamil. My Walmart has 5 cans of it and ALL are dented. They have had these same 5 cans for at least a month and no one is buying them because they are dented. I took them to customer service a couple of days ago and explained to them issue with them. They customer service hags looked at me like I was psycho for being paranoid about a dented can. Today they have been restocked on the shelf. Am I crazy? Would you buy it if the can was dented?
Re: Would you buy powdered formula if the can was dented?
1. I would call and talk to management not their CS department and tell them the next time you see the same five dented cans on the shelf you are calling corporate. IME stores are not to keep dented cans on the shelf. The contents may be perfectly safe but stores do not want to be the responsible party for telling someone that a dented can is safe.
2. I don't use powdered formula but RTF. I open every case when we buy them from BRU and check each can. If the can is dented I sub it out for a singleton on the shelf or get a new box. Every can I find dented goes to their CS. I've never seen them restock them.
I don't know how a dented can impacts powdered formula but with RTF I won't use it - it isn't worth the chance for me and it isn't like BRU is giving me a discount for taking that chance.
Here is a good article though that talks about dented cans. It sounds like the powdered dented can might be okay in theory: https://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1175422/how_to_tell_if_a_dented_can_is_safe.html
I've never really thought about it, but this is what google came up with:
When a can is dented, the inside tin layer might be cracked, which allows the liquid to come in contact with the steel, potentially causing rust and even a hole that could allow the contents to spoil.
