Another solids post

I EBF and pump once a day so that I can give DD a bottle every couple of days (just so she knows how).  On average I would say I get .5 to .75 ounces when I pump (so frustrating).  So, it takes me a long time to get one bottles worth.  I have no idea how I'm going to have enough milk to pump for a bottle and to mix with cereal every day.  Anyone else have this dilemma?

  • I EBF at home and pump at work and it's hard to keep up with his demands while pumping some days.  But to make sure I pump enough for when he's at daycare I pump every night after I put him in bed and I get an additional 1-2 oz.  Try that if you're not already doing it.  Some days I don't have enough for his cereal too, so those days I'll use formula.

  • Do you pump right away in the AM after your LO's first feeding?  Your supply is highest then and you'll be likely to get the most.  I do that and also, like the pp said, I also pump in the evening after LO goes to bed.  It's a lot of pumping, but I like to know that I'll have too much rather than not enough!

I used to just use water with DD1s cereal. I had trouble remembering to have 1/2 oz of milk on hand for it. I also would sometimes use formula. But really she hated cereal so I didn't have much to worry about!

Try pumping after your morning feeding and after your evening feeding. That's nhow I built up my freezer stash before returning to work.

With DS, I pumped before his AM feeding.  I got a ton of stockpile and he had enough when he ate an hour later.
