After more than two years of being dairy free for DD, she weaned and I resumed eating dairy. I have had no G.I. issues and thought I was in the clear. However, I had a nasty sinus infection the week before I weaned. It came back once I started eating dairy again but DD was also sick, and always gets me sick, so I don't know which of those things caused me to get sick again. I didn't go back to the doctor for antibiotics for the second wave of the infection. I've been coughing and hacking stuff up for 3 weeks even though all of my other symptoms are gone.
It is definitely better or worse in the morning depending on what I ate for dinner the night before. About twice a week DH and I eat after DD goes to bed so we can eat non-dairy free food. Last night we had raviolis and now I'm so full of phlegm. So, I don't know if this is a reaction or if it just slowing down my ability to completely clear my congestion.
It sucks. I should eliminate dairy for a week, at least, and see what happens but I can't bring myself to quit. I just got started and havn't had everything on my "I want to eat" list. DH and I haven't even been our dairy free date night yet. It's pretty lame that I could do it for DD but I'm just not ready to commit myself to that lifestyle again. I'm still hanging on to the thought that this is just a rough re-introductory period and my body will learn to process the dairy eventually. *As I choke up my lung*. I'm just bummed.
Re: Bummed - Pretty sure that now I am reacting to dairy
my first thought is that you probably did have GI issues pre-going dairy free, but you didn't realize it. Dairy is really not that healthy (from my research) -especially nowadays.. so your body cleaned it self and now you started putting "toxic" in your body again and it's not accepting it the right way.
You should probably introduce dairy but very lightly into your diet. And make sure it's healthy dairy. Don't gulp on milk or eat 2 pieces of cheese cake. Have a few cubes of cheese once a day for a week and then go to milk in your coffee.. your body will re-adjust. i think.
After coughing all night I've resigned to eiliminate it again until I clear the congestion and then try again. If it still doesn't clear I'll go to my doctor. Who knows maybe I was sicker than I thought and had walking pneumonia or something. Once this issue is gone I'll reintroduce and then go get some allergy testing myself. I need to address my health issues the same way I address DD's.
I feel silly complaining about it when all these lo's have such serious problems. I just looked forward to a few things for so long.
