15 month appointment and no weight gain - any other LO's?

Hey- has this happened to anyone else's LO? She is taller, head is bigger, but actually lost a few ounces.

I swear she is constantly eating. I know my milk supply is barely there, but she has been doing great at drinking from her cup.  I started her on organic whole milk the end of October.

Well, I introduced natural peanut butter today...ya, she threw that on the floor.  I was judging my cousins at Christmas for letting their 18 month olds have cookies and sugar....I guess I am the one doing things wrong!

  • DS only gained 1 lb but his height and head are right on track. Pedi said she isn't worried because he is following his same growth curve and DS is constantly going full speed so he burns it right off.  I wouldn't worry unless your pedi says you should be concerned.

  • Was your doctor concerned?  Lily's weight has barely changed in ages.  She hit 21lbs at 11 months and only just reached 22lbs now.  Their weight gain is supposed to slow a lot by now, from what I understand.

She said she wants to see her back in a month or so to make sure she doesn't fall off the charts.  We leave the area the end of the month so I will have to make sure the new doctor is aware she needs to be seen before her 18 months.  Doc said breastfed babies can decrease after a year, but then again I am pregnant and not anywhere near where I was in making milk.  She has been at the top for weight until 12 months where she dipped to 85%. Everything else she has stayed in the 90's for all her check-ups.

  • Time of day, last wet or dirty diaper and last feeding could easily account for the weight "loss". If she's staying on a curve she's probably fine.

    Good points, thanks.

  • We don't have another appointment until 18months but at her 12 month appointment N had lost a few ounces. She was recovering from a cold though. I am tall and thin and DH is tall and thinner as well. She has our genes and I her build didn't surprise her pedi. She said as long as N was eating well and since she was still nursing there was no need for concern. I am curious to see how much she weighs by 18 months though.

I really wouldn't worry about it too much since she's eating and drinking normally.

  • I'm glad we aren't the only one!

DS just went in yesterday (we don't have a 15 month appointment but he has been sick this week).  He actually lost weight.  He was 23.4 at a year and he was 23 even yesterday.. height was the exact same.

Doctor didn't even mention his weight so I assume it isn't a concern.  He eats great but has been a little off the past two days due to being sick, which could attribute to the weight loss!

  • Nora won't have an appointment for another month or so, but last I attempted to check her on our scale, she moved up a couple of pounds since her 12 month appointment.  From 9-12 months, she didn't gain anything. She may have even lost a little in that time frame.

  • Brooke gained no weight between 12 and 15 months and grew an inch or 2.  I feel that she is eating and drinking just fine and I attribute this to becoming much more active as a walker.
  • DS was ok with weight but dropped significantly in height. He went from 95 percent at birth to 82 percent at 6 months. He is now at 27 percent. Weight for height is fine. Doctor doesn't seem worried but I am. He's been on a ton of meds due to being sick his whole life so I'm hoping that didn't stunt him. A couple ounces doesn't seem like a huge worry. If she's walking a lot that can do it.
