Re-introduction and ? about Abrazo Adoption Services (TX)

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I've posted here. DH and I started doing some research on adoption about 6 months ago, and met with a local Philadelphia agency on Valentine's Day. I was diagnosed (three times, three different doctors, clearly I don't take no for an answer) with premature ovarian failure; and recently my endocrinologist informed me that this is a common occurance with an extremely overactive thyroid (treated in January 2008). Our only hope to conceive a child "on our own" would be IVF with donor eggs. We drew the line there, and easily made the decision to adopt (DH is adopted). However, after doing some initial research, I started to go through a resentful phase, and halted our process because of it. Now that I've found a good therapist, and DH and I are in a better place about it, we have started doing more research again.

Back in January, I found information about Abrazo Adoption Services in San Antonio, TX. They are mainly focused on adoptions for couples with proven infertility (I think we can safely say we fall into that category). They hold a weekend seminar for prospective adoptive parents (8-12 couples at a time), and upon hearing back from them yesterday, we decided we would like to attend their August seminar.

I'm curious if anyone has had experience with this agency? Their fees are lower than most of the agencies in our area (by 55% - including the travel I've mapped out so far), and the philosophy of the agency appeals to us. Any comments you can provide would be so greatly appreciated!

Thanks, and it's good to be back. Luck to all.

Jen

  • I have been corresponding back and forth with one of the women who works there, and she has been extremely helpful so far. I also found some positive reviews, the positive reviews outweigh the three negative reviews I found.

The next few weekend adoption seminars are August 19-20 and November 11-12. Our goal is to go to the August seminar. We have to submit a photo of ourselves, and a pre-inquiry form. They just updated the broken link I found on their website that takes you to the form. So, we're filling that out now and hope to submit our info by next week. In speaking with Brianna, we should hopefully hear back in time to book our flights and hotel (which they can help you find at a great discount) for the August seminar. There are still openings available. The pre-inquiry form is just some basic information including your contact info, ages, type of adoption (race, age, health), and if you are receptive to open adoptions, oh and infertility diagnosis if you are applying to that adoption program.

If I hear anything else, or when I find out if we're definitely going to the August seminar, I'll post again. If you hear anything ladies, please let me know!
