Trying to Get Pregnant

Having exploratory Laparoscopic Surgery

Hello!! I am pretty new to this site. My husband and I have been TTC for 2 years now. Haven't had any luck at all. I am 32 so I kind of feel my clock ticking if I want to have 2 children. So went to a fertility specialist and he thinks I may have endometriosis. I am having the surgery this Friday and am VERY nervous. I have never had any type of surgery before, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this type of surgery and what their outcome was. Thanks!

Re: Having exploratory Laparoscopic Surgery

  • I had mine done at age 18 ( I'm now 30), checking for the same thing but for different reasons -  I had been bleeding for over 3 months straight.   No endometriosis, just a few cysts on my ovaries and something must've been twisted because right after the surgery, all the bleeeding stopped and I went back to normal cycles.  The good news is that if they do find something, they can try to fix it right then. And recovery is pretty easy.  Expect stiff/sore shoulders and neck afterwards from the gas they use to minorly inflate you so they can see.  And my scars - 1 inside my navel and the other one is below the hairline.  Wink

  • I was nervous before mine as well but was glad I would FINALLY know for sure if I had endo. I wound up having moderate endo (stage II) and also some polyps and firbroids in my uterus.

The RE was able to clear away the endo and remove the polyps and fibroids. I was off work for 4 days (includes day of the surgery) and out of the office for 5 days. I could've probably gone back in after 4 days but worked from home the 5th day since I had the option. GL!

  • I just had mine on Friday, and recovery is going pretty well. I'm mostly just bloated/crampy but ok enough to go out to the store and do things around the house. Make sure to have some gas-x and laxatives on hand for when you get home. The pain killers can really bind you up.

    GL to you!

  • Thanks ladies for you input! I will for sure get some Gas X and laxatives :)
  • Hi there.  I mostly lurk on this board now but I was once a very active poster until bfp.  I still keep my fingers crossed for everyone here and try to offer advice where I can.

I had this surgery done for no other reason than we couldn't concieve.  Everything looked great on paper for us (despite my age).  The surgery itself is really easy (obvs., you won't remember anything) but being wheeled back into the freezing cold and super bright operating room was a bit unnerving.

The recovery was super-duper easy for me and I easily could have been back at work the next day (office job) but I milked it and stayed home.  I was walking slowly around the neighbor hood 24 hours later and back on the stationary bike about 3-4 days later.

The incisions bugged me a bit but that was normal healing-itchiness, I think.

The results of my lapo were:  "Everthing is great.  We have no idea why you can't get pregnant.  $6000, please."

I wish you the best of luck but I promise that I've had PAP smears that were harder to recover from than this surgery.  Good luck.

  • I am so sorry that you went through all of that and found nothing:( That is one of the things I am most worried about. I am hoping this will give me the answers to why I can't can't conceive. My fear is that they will say "Oh your just fine," That means we would have to start all over again. That would put us in that 10% of unexplained infertility which is when I think I would begin the adoption process, because I am not putting myself through all of the emotional pain and financial pain without a guarantee. I will post what the dr. says of Friday. Hopefully I will have a great recovery like you did:) I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you will get pregnant very soon. My friend was in your shoes and after a few years she just turned up preggo and now she has 3! You never know and the Lord and his own timing, which is sure not mine!

  • I had my surgery yesterday and it went very well. I had only stage 1 endometriosis and 2 cysts removed on my left ovary. The dr said he felt there should be no reason now why I shouldn't be able to conceive on my own. I sure hope so! The pain is pretty bad though right now, I had 4 incisions and I feel like I got kicked in the stomach like 20 times.
