How do you check for changes in your skin? I know the importance of checking for changes regularly to catch something like skin cancer in an early stage, but I think it would have to be an extremely obvious change for me to notice since I have such a huge "inventory" to keep an eye on. I had a lot of serious burns as a kid, coupled with very fair, freckled skin. I will ask my doc, but I won't see him for quite some time.
My arms, face, legs, and back look like this. I have fewer on my stomach because it has rarely seen the sun:
ETA: My skin looks pink because...I have a little bit of a sunburn from work. I wear sunscreen religiously, but I still manage to burn.
I started going for annual checks at the dermatologist two Decembers ago. Last December they found a suspicious mole and I had it removed. Luckily things are fine but they want to remove more skin around the spot. Skin cancer, well any kind of cancer really, terrifies me. I go every six months for skin checks now. I don't trust my ability to notice changes. I do trust the dermatologist!
